Space at two terrific Maxitours favourites – Vale Royal on Weds 20th Sept (2 team spaces)
and Davyhulme on Thursday 21st Sept.
Maxitours at charming Chorley.
‘Book this place next year Tim – it’s a cracker!’
These were the words of well-travelled single figure player Simon Hemsley as the first group happily handed their cards in.
The praise for this excellent moorland course continued throughout the afternoon.
‘What a Fantastic course!’ Reported Chris Darlington – ‘It’s brilliant.’
‘What a beautiful course, the setting is amazing, thanks Tim!’ Declared nice guy Paul Browne.
Louise behind the bar did a fantastic job all day. She is right up there with the best in the business. Club pro Andy Palmer is a fine player and an even better bloke and he put the nearest the pins out for me and made us all feel so welcome today. The bacon butties were huge with three massive rashers sitting inside a loaf sized bap. Class.
Even Fredericks Ice cream shop was open late in the day as I stopped in for a hard earned custard cream flavoured cornet on my way home. You should play this lovely course if you can.
It is always nice to have the occasional celebrity playing on Maxitours. Although Dave Mitchell is a legend in his own lunchtime it was his good friend and ex Scotland rugby union star Brian Redpath who is the superstar. Brian has over 60 caps for Scotland and played in three world cup quarter finals but his 7th place Maxitours finish was right up there with the highlights of his sporting career.
They don’t mess around with fancy Cheshire drinks in this part of Lancashire.
‘Can I have a pint of Gunners?’ Asked well spoken Nigel Haines to the young barmaid.
‘I have no idea what you are talking about.’ She replied.
‘Can I have a Windermere then?’
‘Are you on drugs?’
Paul Fell was in an unusually good mood when he finished his round. On further investigation he made the only birdie of the day on the tough closing par three to help his team of Colin Bryan, Stuart Rogers and Gareth Roberts take 6th place.
Taking 2nd place today with a great 85 points was psychiatric nurse Mark Birch and his Ashton in Makerfield team/clients Tony Hope, Jimmy Crumbleholme and Pete Fildes. They score an incredible 49 points on the front nine but will need further treatment after just 36 points on the back nine saw them miss out by a single shot.
Third place went to the Davyhulme ‘b’ team of Pete Short, Carl Marginson, Steve Tobin, and Simon Bovin.
Winning was the Davyhulme ‘a’ team (they told me to write that) of Alan Vaughan(9) Kev Hart (10) Paul Yearsley(6) and Joe Mann (12). They have all played average golf in recent months but were delighted to take the win today. Well played chaps!
Thanks to everyone for your 100% attendance. Awesome.
Yours in golf, Tim.

Maxitours at Classy Cavendish
Cavendish was in remarkable condition for todays Maxitours event.
This Mackenzie course is a classic and a real challenge to be enjoyed. Everyone loved the challenging greens and tremendous design.
Malcolm Humphries is a lovely bloke and he walked across two fairways to tell the Cavendish green keeper that his greens were up there with the best he had played all year. Nice gesture Martin.
Ricardo and Paul in the clubhouse also do a tremendous job. I love the bacon butty and coffee honestly box for people to pay for their lovely breakfast- this could only happen at a golf club – we are blessed to play this great game.
Attention seeking Phil Dickens and Tony Leigh both played average golf today but both decided to get stung by wasps after their round to liven things up. Phils pain threshold is lower than Tonys as he had 4 staff members administering first aid whilst tough Tony shrugged off the pain. Very Impressive Tony.
Nigel Ashton played golf with my brother last year. He also played in the event at Bramall last week when my brother ran the event.
I like both your brothers, I had a chat with the one who ran Bramall last week , is he younger than the other brother I played with last year.
I only have 1 brother Nigel. It’s the same man.
Scoring was the worst in Maxitours history with the average team score being around level par. .
78 was the leading score in the clubhouse in the morning bur the afternoon saw three teams share first place with just 81 points!
Romileys Jeremy Waterhouse, Phil Beaghan, Richard Atkin and Steve Baldwin scored 43 points on the front nine. A decent back six saw them beat Hazel Groves Andrew Hill, Tom Gradwell, Frazer macload and Steve Mobley on a tight card play off. The Hazel Grove team were cruising before they fell off the Buxton mountainside with just 1 point on the 16th hole.
Winning were Davyhulmes Carl Maginson, Dave Blease, Ged Manning and Steven Tobin who all played the course recently. They took advantage of their homework coming home in 42 points for a dramatic victory.
Well played chaps.
Great score.
Thanks to all players for your 100 % attendance- brilliant.

Maxitours at astounding Astbury
Another tremendous day was enjoyed by all at Astbury Golf Club. This wonderful Club sits at the foothills of the Derbyshire Pennines but is a classic Cheshire parkland course – with wildlife filled ponds, stunning trees and hedgerows and beautiful fairways and greens. It even has its own railway line and canal. The designers have thought of everything.
What they couldn’t think of was how to ensure Graham Wilkinson arrived at the correct golf club. I was slightly worried that some of my players may go to the new Astbury Golf and lodge complex in Shropshire but daft graham decided to go to Eaton. Nobody including Graham knows why he went there.
Angie and her catering staff are brilliant and they were delighted to have such great support from our players throughout the day. Thank you to everyone for supporting these host clubs so well each week, please keep it up!
The worst golfer in maxitours history – 34 handicapper Stuart ‘old man’ Hibbert – played today. It is always good to see this gent.
‘Can I have a scorecard please?’ He asked.
I gave him one and informed him that there was a bin near the 3rd tee.
‘That’s good to know’ He replied.
The incessant recent rainfall meant there was less run on the immaculate fairways than usual, the course was playing long and the greens were receptive. Astbury was definitely a big hitters golf course and this showed in the results.
Martin Humphries(11) and his team set the pace early in the day with a solid 84. Dave Hest(12), Adrian Brown(13) and Keith Shale(14) had 46 points on the front nine before reality set in and they came home in a less magnificent 38 points to take 3rd,
Jim Caldwell is as fit as a flea but results have been quiet in recent weeks. It was back to business today with 87 points to take 2nd place. Peter Griggs(11) ,Steve Perrett(12)and John Roome(15) completed the team.
It was the big hitting Bolton quartet of Scott Booth (8) Gary Myerscough(8) John Dempsey (scr) and Danny Swarsbrick(11) who took the honours today. Dempsey made eagle on the par four 13th but Danny Swarsbrick did the damage with a super 3 gross birdies and an eagle.
‘I cant play any better than that!’
Reported the likeable Lancastrian who also scooped nearest the pin on the 15th,
Thanks to everyone for supporting todays event.

Dear Maxitours players,
Chorley golf club event is Friday 15th September – not Tuesday 12th as previously advertised. My mistake entirely. Apologies for any inconvenience.
Please let me know if you can’t play. There are still a couple of slots available at this tremendous must-play Lancashire course. There is also a famous ice cream shop at the bottom of the road which needs a visit.
Thanks Tim.
