Maxitours at brilliant Bromborough.

Well over 100 competitors visited this lovely Wirral course as Maxitours went to Bromborough.
The Clubhouse, staff and professional are all top notch at this friendly championship Club.

Bromborough is always a huge favourite with our players, the superb rolling championship course was loved by all. Jerry Salmon really enjoyed thinning his wedges on the excellent new short game area near the clubhouse before his round and meat pie specialist Graham Jackson made the most of the half way house fare.

Simon Poucher picked up the nickname Aquaman after his ball visited the water several times on a recent golf holiday in Turkey. Today Aquaman looked like a drowned rat as he handed his card in.
‘I don’t like wearing a waterproof top as it makes me sweat.’ He told me shivering in his wringing wet maxitours t-shirt. ‘I have two umbrellas, a hat, several towels, a rainglove and a pair of winter mitts instead.’ You might want to rethink those tactics Simon.

After also playing in the worst of the evening rain Nigel Koenan looked a bit wet. He is an incredibly likeable bloke with a great sense of humour.
‘We had the best conditions today- I didn’t get a single strand of hair wet!’ Reported bald as a coot Nigel as he handed his soggy card in.

Bromborough was a tale of two halves with the morning starters enjoying glorious conditions and the afternoon players experiencing the start of yet another summer storm.

Simon Hemsley(10), Andy Bradshaw(0), Matt Ford (10) and Brian Fisher(11) were first out. They thought 82 points may finish top half but they will be delighted to read that they clinched 3rd place. Brian is a great supporter of local professional golf and is a very popular figure in the local area.

Teeing off last the tough Northern Turton team played the front nine in an impressive 45 points but then had to hang on in the toughening conditions. I watched them make a terrific birdie and par on the tough 18th for a six point haul which dragged them into second position.
‘This is a calm day compared to what we play in each week up in’t Bolton hills’. Remarked John Dempsey(1). To be fair this was definitely the performance of the day. Steven Booth(7), Gary Myerscough(8) and Kevin Yardley(7) completed the team.

Dukinfield retired copper Neale Laurent (14) and his men posted a solid 85 in the great morning weather and despite a late challenge from the Turton lads the team of John Harrop, (7) Gary Berrisford(11) and Steve McClure (14) cruised to a Brian Harman style victory . Well played chaps. Excellent performance on a testing golf course.

Thanks again for your 100% attendance. Class.

Results from excellent Helsby

Maxitours at Helsby

Another perfect day for golf greeted competitors at Helsby today

Thanks to my daughter Ella for running the last half of the day. She enjoyed meeting all the different characters from the tour. Thanks for making her day so enjoyable. If you ever have the option of getting six inches relief from a hazard or the length of her false eyelashes go for the eyelashes every time.

The scores were very close and just 86 points was good enough to take first prize. Jim Caldwell, John Sheriden, Peter Griggs and Bob Pickthall beat Dave Westwood, John Farnsworth, Keith Fitzhenry and Richard Palmer on the back nine card play off. Westwoods team were out in an amazing 49 points before dropping four shots on the tough closing three holes allowing Caldwells team to have a six shot swing.

Well played chaps.

Lewis Marland, Phil Dickens , Paul Robinson and Niel Evans had their best result of the season with an excellent 85 points and 3rd place.

The course and catering were as first class as always and feedback was excellent. I love Helsby, one of the friendliest clubs you will ever visit.

Thank you Helsby Golf Club.

Enjoy the open. ‘Come on Tommy lad’.

Maxitours at magnificent Manchester Golf Club

Room at Helsby next Thursday 20th July- a beautiful course in deepest Cheshire!

Space at Romiley Tues 8th August

Results from stunning Hopwood

The Manchester Golf club was once again in excellent condition. This Club improves each year and a new driving range and short game area for the members reflects how they just keep raising the bar.

The fairways, greens and surrounds were superb – what a fantastic golf course this is.

The golf course needs a little bit of wind to make it a real test so the sunshine and July breeze meant conditions were ideal today.

Thanks to all the staff for making us feel so welcome.

As I handed scorecards out it was interesting to see how many players handicaps have increased in the past few weeks- wet windy conditions and brutal lush mid-summer rough is taking its effect.

If you think you are playing badly at the moment you are not alone. That’s what I keep telling myself.

Paul Woodbine is a great bloke. He swapped his callaway top as his wife said it made him look a funny shape. He took a footjoy top instead. I hope his wife isn’t too disappointed but he still looked a funny shape to me.

Hazel Grove barrister/magistrate and all round nice guy Simon Ashtons(10) team took 2nd after an excellent 90 points late in the day. Dan Moss(5), Mike Jones(10) and Darren Wilkinson(9) completed the team.

Geoff Bickerton(4) had a career equalling best of 3 birdies on the bounce on holes 9-11 today but team mate John Dempsey(2) equalled the feat with birdies on the closing three holes.

The team was delighted to finish 3rd with 88 points.

Rob Platt(5) and his Silkstone team shared 4th place with Ian Hazelwood’s(12) Tytherington men both teams scoring 86 points.

Will Lancaster (plus 2) is at Bath University and plays for the golf team. He has started to speak a little bit posher recently and his golf had definitely improved since he has been mixing with the wealthy southern students. He had an incredible six birdies topped off with an eagle on the 3rd as he helped his team to 91 points. Excellent. Less well-spoken Dave Buckley(16), Dave Carter(5) and Billy McCaffrey(8) were the three spectators.

Great golf chaps. Very well played.

Thanks for your 100% attendance once again.

Maxitours at lovely Lancaster

Maxitours at lovely Lancaster

The entrance hall to Lancaster is the grandest in the land and it is a real pleasure to hand the cards out in such regal surroundings. Lots of players commented that I looked even more important than normal when they checked in. Bring it on.

Feedback was terrific throughout the day- the general consensus was that this is a wonderful place to play golf.
The weather was perfect and Lancaster is just a short journey up the M6. Brilliant.

The par threes at Lancaster take some playing but there was something in the air as Andy Parrington had his first ever hole in one and looked like he was going to cry with joy, three other players had two twos. Even David Kelly had a couple. Incredible.

Dave Griffiths is another lovable Maxitours character.
‘Those greens were so fast it was impossible. Even a lag putt goes ten feet past the flag.’
‘Did you think about hitting it a bit gentler Dave?’
‘Oh yeah ill try that next time.’

Pete Walters is a great bloke and always offers to buy me a drink after his round. I don’t know where he hit his golf ball today but after his round he told me that the golf course was great but there were a few hornets knocking around. Nobody else saw as much as a fly.

There was almost no rough out there so big hitters enjoyed the conditions and scoring was excellent from the younger teams for a change.

It was great to see Steve Aspinall and his team of Ken Booth, Barry Wellings and Alan Simpson take 3rd place.
Stamfords Paul Traynor, Richard Margrave, Ian Fearns and scratch golfer Mike Grainger took 2nd with an excellent 89 points for their bets of the season finish.

Winning were the Wychwood Park quartet who finally found some form to record a first win for over five years. They destroyed the short par fives and were delighted with the win.

Tom Butler had never played here before.
‘We had such a good day. The course is right up there with the best. Thanks so much Tim. ‘Paul Price, Mick Berrisford and Leigh Roberts completed the suuccesful quartet.

Thanks everyone for your 100% attendance.
Maxitours players have class. Thank you.
