Sandiway still on!

Maxitours Portugal event
* still room for 2 teams of 4 at superb Vilasol in January
* also room for 1 player in a lovely team if you want some winter golf!

Dear Maxitours player

Despite recent heavy rainfall the Sandiway event is currently on !

Brian the respected Sandiway head green keeper will do his best to get us on full greens especially as no rain is forecast from midnight.

However if the greens are still very wet at 8am we could be on temporary greens at a reduced rate of £20

A final decision will be made at 8.30 am and will be posted on my website

Thanks for your patience

Maxitours at perfect Prestbury

(Apologies but the report is shorter than normal as I have a parents evening and Club Function to attend tonight.)

A crisp fresh November day greeted 100 Maxitours competitors at Prestbury Golf Club today.

When it comes to golf Dave Westwood usually doesn’t know what he is talking about but he got it dead right after his round today ‘that course is in remarkably good condition’ said the Blackburn man.’It was terrific out there!’

Everything about Prestbury is first class and many thanks to everyone at this great club for making us feel so welcome.

.
Again heavy overnight rain fell in this part of the country but the free draining Prestbury greens remained true and firm. Thanks to Mark Crossley who is talented enough to present tremendous playing surfaces all year round for Prestbury Golf Club members and guests.

John Farnsworth had a bad finish to his day, not only did he three putt the last green but he spilt some beer on the carpet. ‘I three putt regularly but I very rarely spill any beer’ said the fretful Mytton man ‘I’m absolutely devastated’

Mike Wainwright had a better day today. Last week he played badly, lost his wedding ring and got stung by a wasp. Today he just played badly.

In todays event:
James Shipstone(10) and Dennis O’Neill(11)won a card play off to take 3rd place and Brookdales’ Neale Laurent(12) made the most of a day without his regular partner Lewis Marland to team up with more talented Gareth Winston(10) and they took 2nd place with 43 points.
Taking first prize were Hale golf Clubs answer to the chuckle brothers – Andy(18) and Peter Veitch(10). These regular players are both lovely guys and their victory with 44 points just goes to prove that you are never too old to win.

Thanks to all who supported the event, Yours in golf, Tim

Prestbury event still on- please carry if you can!

Dear Maxitours player,

Todays event at Prestbury is on. The greens look superb but there are a few wet areas.

The green keeper would be grateful if players can carry if at all possible to help the course.

As at every event can all players continue to observe your excellent course etiquette and avoid roped off areas.

Yours in golf, Tim

Maxitours at fabulous Fairhaven

It was a murky start at Fairhaven Golf Club with a little bit of coastal drizzle in the air. The skies soon lifted and a really tremendous day was enjoyed by all.
The message on the Fairhaven website this morning was ‘Greens cut, holes changed and bunkers raked’ Thanks to all the green staff for preparing the course so well.

Fairhaven has been excellent throughout the season and you can see why this is such a popular venue for Open Championship qualifying each year. The catering was also terrific and my double bacon cheeseburger and chips didn’t touch the sides.

Golf manager Lindzi Stones is very efficient and great to deal with -thank you very much for all your work.

The build up to Christmas is well and truly underway with every second advert on TV being a festive four minute department store emotional epic. Big Andy Sandham loves his food and it is rumoured that he has also started his build up to Christmas this week. On Saturday night he opened his Christmas tin of quality streets and when he entered the bar after his round he asked the stewardess ‘Have you got any mince pies for sale yet’

Half Italian Mark Daniels was devastated as his beloved national side failed to make the World Cup finals this Summer. His team tried to cheer him up with a couple of one liners: ”what’s Gattuso mad?’ It’s not the end of the world you can still watch it on the tagliatelle’

Playing Conditions were perfect with immaculate greens and forward tees. It was clear that scoring was going to be excellent. Knutsford’s Trevor Webb (Spider to his friends) was having a good day by his standards and was enjoying the very playable course:’It’s easy out here, even John Horsley and I have had a birdie each’ said the likeable accountant when I chatted to him after nine holes.

Mike Stuarts’ (22) ever present Lancaster team didn’t have quite as far to travel as usual and they were delighted to finish 3rd with 89 points. Dave Stone(3) Fred Green (7)and Dave Thorley (12) made up the extra large team.

Bri Hopkins(4) and Alan Pengelly (13) are great fellas but they were 2 short this week so I teamed them up with Carl Kennedy(11) and talented scouser Ray Tennant(5). Ray used to caddy on the European tour for a couple of seasons. ‘Did he use all his experience to help you to stay focussed over the closing holes?’ I asked ‘Not really he just kept running around telling us to ‘Calm down! calm down!”

Winning with a terrific score of 91 points was Didsbury’s Chris Cyprus(11), Steve Latchford(9), Rob Andrew(7) and Barney Ross(4). Cyprus was on fire early in his round and he birdied three holes on the bounce for the first and probably only time in his career. The quartet picked up 48 points on the tougher back nine and then hung on to take first prize. Chris and Barney are top lads but with consecutive wins they see their handicap cut buy a further 2 shots each. ‘that’s the best I’ve ever played’ said a very happy Chris .

Thanks to all who played, reports about the whole venue were excellent – I am delighted you enjoyed your day.
