Maxitours at prestigious Prestbury.
A stunning afternoon was the reward for the Maxitours players who made it through
the rush hour snow to play at lovely Prestbury Golf Club.
This special place keeps improving under Course Manager Mark Crossley and the greens look set to be superb once again for the coming season, thanks to Mark and all his men for their hard work.
‘I was so glad we went out- it was class -the greens were terrific ‘Admired Paul Dalby.
‘That was stunning’ Observed Jonny Barton.
‘It was lovely this afternoon – I even took my sweater off !’ Remarked warm hearted Dave Blood.
Richard the Michelin star rated caterer makes some of the best baps on tour and Club Manager David should be proud of all his friendly staff, they are great to work with. Thank you.
The forecast was mixed and it is always stressful trying to make the correct call whether to go ahead with the event or not. At 10.30am the golf course turned white after a heavy snow flurry but this cleared within 30 minutes and a warm and pleasant afternoon was enjoyed by all.
I knew it was going to be a long day when Phil McCurry picked up his scorecard and asked “ Tim, there are two teams on our tee – which one goes first team A or team B?”
Take a wild guess Phil.
It was great to see a couple of lady players (Mrs Deborah Fell and Mrs Alison Shipston) enjoying a Maxitours outing with their husbands on International Womens Day. They are both excellent golfers and played some great golf to finish well in the top half of the field although it must be said Paul Fells sweater looked like it needed a good iron.
On the golf course Jonny Barton lost his Wilson d200 Sand wedge but he isn’t bothered if anyone hands it in as he hasn’t hit a good shot with it for over two years.
British Football Executive David Gill(13) showed he is not just a very clever man when he made an eagle on the 8th hole to win some balls in the sweep. Well done David -lets hope England are as successful at this years World Cup.
At the top of the leader board Accrington’s Matt Mortimer(13) and Phil Mayers(11) battled through six inches of Lancashire snow to get out of their house this morning but it was worth it as they finished in 4th spot with 43 points. Denton nice guys Dave Collinson(6) and Ian George(7) had their best finish for years as they took third also on 43 points.
Pete Atherton’s(11) new hip hasn’t improved his swing as much as everyone hoped but he teamed up with talented Martin France(4) to take 2nd spot with 45 points.
Taking first place was Bramall Golf Club senior duo of Peter Maher(17) and Neil Higgins(12) These guys only entered late last night but picked up 25 points on their front nine and managed to hold it together on the tougher closing holes. Great golf chaps well played!
Thanks to everyone for your support, I am delighted you had a great day’s golf at last, Tim
