Knutsford Golf Club Singles.

The sun was cracking the flags at The Knutsford Golf club this morning. Due to the large size of the field tee times had to be extended and the early starters had a real treat in the picture postcard conditions.

All was quiet as the early summer mist settled over Tatton lake, the deer grazed contentedly in the adjoining park, the woodpeckers tapped away merrily overhead and an elderly couple enjoyed a quiet walk among the ancient oak trees which border the course, however wildlife and ramblers alike all had to take cover after Chris Hegartys wayward drive on the 2nd hole careered into the park.

Colin Walton also struggled on the lovely holes which bordered Tatton Park , Colin appeared to be focusing too much on the passing female joggers rather than his impact position, however this didn’t seem to affect his mood as he had a large smile on his face as he polished the lenses of his steamed up Bifocals.

Ken Jones is in the middle of rebuilding his swing, he has now decided to rebuild his garden shed instead after playing 18 holes with talkative legend Neville Dennis.

Dick Perry played wonderfully to take the early lead with 40 points, this was matched by the likeable Steve Rourke and then Joe York who took the honours with a great back nine. Martin Williams, Andy Stubbens, Alan Ried, big spending Simon Hartland and big hearted Jimmy Eccles all played well on this beautiful parkland course described by Denis Durnian as ‘the best nine hole course in the North’.

Carl Kennedy wrapped up the Shotsaver Order of Merit with a solid 34 points, well done Carl you played some superb golf this winter. A high quality field comprising 10 of the most competitive amateurs in Cheshire took their well earned place in the famous Maxitours shootout this evening, newly crowned Order of Merit winner Carl Kennedy was pumped up with adrenaline, many Maxitour regulars looked unusually nervous as all ten teed off the first, the shootout has just finished and Gary Hibbert was delighted with his exciting victory- more details in a later email- I’m off to bed!

Many thanks to all who players who supported this Winters Maxitour events, I hope you enjoyed your golf as much as I enjoyed running the events. Yours in golf, Tim.
