Prestbury Golf Club
Maxitours Pairs Betterball
Another beautiful Autumn day greeted the 108 Maxitours competitors at Prestbury Golf Club today. Still conditions, fast running fairways and yellow tees made conditions ideal for great golf on this stunning course.
Recent weeks had seen some average scoring however today there was some tremendous golf played. Paul Granelli a distant family member of the famous Ice cream dynasty ‘whipped’ a 7 iron close to the flag on the short 7th ‘stick a flake in that!’ said a delighted Granelli as he walked off with nearest the pin. Geoff Andrews was closest after a towering shot into the 17th signature hole.
As the squirrels gathered their nuts in the Autumn sunshine talented Irishman Jimmy O’Reilly was gathering birdies as he partnered John Reilly to take the early lead in the clubhouse with 46 points. Tytheringtons Jason Waite and James Davison matched that score with Davisons birdie on the 7th hole the highlight of his round.
After 15 attempts Ross Birch is yet to win a Maxitour event and today he teamed up with Moby Rawthore and played ‘the best round of my life’ to record a wonderful 51 points. Fireman Birch (10) birdied holes 3,4 and 5 on an incredible front nine helped by Rawthore (4) birdies on the 1st and 8th holes. However Birch is still without a win as his score was amazingly matched by my ex PE teacher Pete Holmes from Macclesfield GC and my Dad (Styal). ‘It was one of those days’ said the unlikely duo ‘we just couldn’t miss’. After a 4 shot general play handicap reduction my Dad will be unlikely to repeat this feat in the near future.
Colin Roberts lost control of his powakaddy crossing a narrow bridge at High Legh GC yesterday and he gracefully fell along with his clubs into the fast flowing stream. Today Roberts was in full control of his faculties and it was his swing that was flowing well as he returned a fantastic 42 points to record the 2nd best over 60’s score. John Wreag and Harry Malpas took that honour with a tremendous 45 points.
Many thanks for playing today, I hope you enjoyed this wonderful golf course which was in superb condition. Many thanks to the greens staff, bar staff and Secretary Neville for their hard work and making us feel so welcome.
Tim.
