The Srixon Masters at Reddish Vale

Reddish Vale was in great condition for today’s Maxitours event. Many competitors felt that the lightening fast greens were the best they had played on all year. The course was a real credit to the members and staff of this lovely historical course.

Alasdair Mackenzie has designed some of the best golf courses in the best locations in the world. Nobody is too sure what he was doing wandering around Stockport one hundred and one years ago but he has blessed the Reddish locals with a real masterpiece to enjoy.

John Hilditch announced in the clubhouse that the last time he played here was in the 1978 Greater Manchester Schoolboys Championship. It looked like he was trying to roll back the years by wearing his old school uniform today as he modelled a very scruffy navy blue tank top and his best Clarks shoes.

Many husbands buy their wives flowers to show their affection. Chris Hegarty displayed his love for wife Gail when he was seen carrying his bag on his back and pushing her powerless electric trolley up the famous steep last hole. Gail eased his job by removing her putter and offering a few encouraging words as he neared the summit of the hill.

In today’s event the grey haired pairing of Dave Stanhope(11) and John Anderton(9) from High Legh set the early pace with an excellent 43 points. This was matched by Brian Gibbons(9) and Mark Kilgallen(15) from Upton by Chester who took third and also Didsburys Bob Vickers(6) and Rob Anderton(5) who took second place with a super back nine.

Taking the honours were veterans Ron Jolley(17) and John Hilton(12) who scored a wonderful 44 points. Retired Ron was in charge of motorway lighting systems for many years and he played illuminating golf on the front nine. John was a table tennis pro for ten years and he used all his experience on the closing holes to ensure victory

Many thanks to Srixon’s Jon Gallagher for his terrific sponsorship today. All players gratefully received three top of the range Srixon Z stars to happily use/lose during their round.
