Maxitours at Fabulous Ringway
Another full field enjoyed the wonderful Ringway Golf Club. Heavy rain is forecast for tonight and tomorrow, however all today’s players remained very happy and very dry today.
The first class greens were cut and ironed this morning and were a real pleasure to play on. Nick Ryan is a class head professional and he was once again a great help. The catering is also excellent, unfortunately steak and chips at 11am was followed by fish and chips at 5pm. Thanks also to vivacious Fiona the stunning Club Manager.
Charles Herbert must have been bored this morning. He phoned me from his home in nearby Fallowfield three miles away ‘whats the weather like over there? Is it shorts or trouser weather?’ he asked.
Vince Sweeney the ex-Assistant Chief Constable for Greater Manchester Police played today. He made the National newspapers in the 80’s when he got married to Miss Sheila ‘Todd’. Today he failed to make the ‘cut’ and was a long way from ‘murdering’ the tricky Ringway course.
John Stubbs is another intelligent retired police detective who played today. ‘The downhill putts are a lot faster than the uphill putts on this course’ he deducted after his round. Despite this insight John still managed to three putt the 13th green after winning the nearest the pin prize.
In today’s event the scoring was once again very close. Lewis Marland(13) continues his excellent form and he managed a high finish even when playing alongside one of the nicest and yet most unsuccessful golfers in Manchester -Alf Shillitoe(18). Lewis nearly fell over when unreliable Alf made a surprising and tremendous par at the last. The like able duo were overjoyed with 4th position and could be seen sitting very close to each other having a post round drink in the bar.
Third place went to Denton ’s badly dressed Joel King(7) and his gritty partner Jim Cox(3). Joel was magnificent on the front nine scoring three birdies however Cox stood up to the mark on the back nine and their 45 points was good enough for 3rd place.
Ian King’s(8) season turned around when he found a new best friend in Alex Elliott, a talented eighteen year old ‘fresh faced’ 1 handicapper from Bramall GC. Alex birdied four holes in a row from the 9th hole today. Ian King made his major contribution on the back nine when he handed his young partner a chocolate bar and a bottle of fizzy pop to give him a bit more energy. To his credit Kingy is turning himself into a quality golfer and he made majestic pars on the testing and crucial 14th and 15th holes.
Today’s winners were the very experienced Colin Roberts(18) and John Rigby(14). These two Alsager members are so old they no longer buy green bananas. Talented Colin and John are true gentlemen who have a great passion for the game and they have both supported Maxitours brilliantly over the past five years. They will be extremely popular winners among their fellow competitors. Roberts was class on the front nine and Rigby played the seven tough closing holes in level par. Great golf chaps, very well played indeed!
Many thanks to Shotsaver for their Sponsorship today. Thanks to all Competitors for your continued support.
