Maxitours at Hazel Grove

Another stunning and steamy day greeted today’s talented field of Maxitours Competitors.
There were very positive comments about the quality of the putting surfaces and excellent presentation of this Alasdair Mackenzie masterpiece. Hazel Grove when it is prepared to this very high standard is a real pleasure to play. Thanks to the Green staff and committee for all their hard work.
Before his recent successes and new found fame as the new ‘Shotsaver Order of Merit leader’ Dave Stanhope was known as Mr Nice guy. Today he strutted into the Clubhouse demanding a public apology ‘here is my driver’s licence I was born in 1947, can you please let my fellow players know I am only 67 and not 68 years old as you stated in your last report.’ ‘He’s changed!’ said good friend and critique Phil Smeathers.

Health conscious Port Vale fan Colin Roberts knows how to rehydrate and maintain his finely tuned mineral sodium levels after a game of golf in the Mediterranean Stockport heat : ‘Can I have a pint of bitter and a large portion of Chips with plenty of salt please’. He asked the Hazel Grove barmaid after his round.

Today the Commonwealth games began in the City of Culture, Glasgow. Well spoken Richard Blackwell is certainly not Common but he is pretty Wealthy and the wine coinnessiour celebrated by playing some great golf. An incredible outward 25 points playing alongside Clitheroe’s Paul Burrows saw them as early pace setters however they collected just 7 points on the final five holes to finish 4th with 42 points.
Charles Herbert has not featured in the top half of the field in recent weeks however today he played alongside Ross Birch and was delighted with a third place finish despite not scoring on the 15th hole. ‘We blew it’ was his post round summary.
Top Manchester DJ Carl Kennedy has played all the big clubs in the City, today his partner Ollie Benson was dancing with delight on the Hazel Grove dance floor as Kennedy parred all five of the toughest holes on the course. ‘It’s great to be back playing well’ raved Kennedy after finishing in second place.
New Maxitours regulars Simon Conway and Mark Williams from Mottram Hall took today’s honours with a hard fought 43 points. Conway birdied two of the tough par threes and then put the icing on his cake with a wonderful three at the last to secure their first ever victory. Well played chaps.
Pat Keenan was delighted to win the ETIQUS Nearest the Pin Challenge as his seven wood finished just twelve feet from the pin on the tricky par three second hole. He win a superb new ETIQUS watch www.ETIQUS.co.uk courtesy of Gary Butler from ETIQUS. Playing partner Mike Stephenson gave him this compliment ‘I have to admit that it was a great shot, in fact it was the best shot he hit all day, he was lousy on the other 17 holes’
Please take a look at the ETIQUS website to view the exciting new range of watches for golfers.
Many thanks for all who played in todays event, see you next week at World Class Hopwood. Yours in Golf, Tim.
