Maxitours at sunny Sandiway
A stunningly beautiful Winters morning greeted Maxitours players at Sandiway today.
Bright sunshine and not a cloud in the sky was the reward for those who travelled to this Cheshire masterpiece.
No overnight rain and excellent drainage meant the greens were also perfect . Thanks to Head man Brian and his excellent staff for all their hard work.
‘I can’t believe how firm and true these greens are- ‘ said Paul Knowles.
‘Those greens are dryer than Ghandi’s flip flops’ declared Mark Shaw.
‘It’s just great to be playing’ said Dave Blood ‘but that was awesome!’
Everything about this lovely Club is excellent and Sandiway are also proud of Head professional Gareth Jones who has recently won best foremost PGA professional award in the UK -Well done Gareth.
Scoring was incrdibly tight with six pairings scoring 42 points and two pairs taking the honours on 43 points.
Pete Mellor(110 and Phil Collinson(18) have been watching too much Ashes on the TV. They had an England- like batting collapse, picking up just one point on the 10th and 11th holes. A late rally saw them miss out on victory by a single stroke as they finished with a solid 42 points.
Mount Agung in Bali has started smoking after a lying dormant for many years.
Alan Pengellys(13) ‘ golf game has also been dormant for a very long time but this ‘old geezer’ erupted into life today to take third place playing alongside Mike Powell (11)with 42 points. Well done Alan.
Second place went to big Dan Moore(22) and John Hilton (12) from New Mills. They had a very impressive 24 points on the front nine but reality set in on the tougher back nine as they just lost out on a card play-off.
Prince Harry told the media yesterday that he just knew that Meghan ‘was the one’. Graham Jackson(10) from Heyrose thought that Vernon Hayes(12) was ‘the one’ when his partner rolled in the only birdie of the day on the tough 12th hole. ‘ I knew he was the right man for me the first time I saw his putting stroke’ said an emotional Jackson. The likeable pair recorded a first ever Maxitours victory with 43 points. They had a couple of pints to celebrate in the clubhouse before heading off for a quiet drink together in the Railway pub in Mobberley. Well played chaps.
Thanks for all who played today, I hope you enjoyed your golf, Tim
