Maxitours at phenomenal Fairhaven

Ideal links golfing conditions greeted my Maxitours competitors at Fairhaven this morning. Blue skies, a sea breeze, fast running fairways and superb greens meant this course was played as it was designed to be played. A terrific test of golf.

Ben and the bar staff were exceptional to deal with throughout the day and couldn’t have been more helpful. A lot of my players commented on the quality of their service. Thanks very much indeed.

Simon Ashton’s team stayed over in Lytham last night as they wanted to be fully prepared for today’s event. They arrived last night and the plan was to could get to the course early this morning and warm up on the driving range and hit a few putts. They even had a quiet early evening fish and chip supper to give their food plenty of time to digest. Unfortunately, they followed it up with 8 pints and were hopeless today.

Fairhaven is famous for being protected by superb bunkers. They have an excellent maintenance programme and work hard on them each Winter. John Farnsworth hates bunkers and as he prepared to play his approach shot he was delighted to see that around the 16th green 4 of the 5 bunkers were GUR unfortunately his shot trickled into the only one in play. The ball soon ended up in his pocket.

Sorry if the write up is shorter than usual I have just had my head pecked by Jim Cox for the last hour. He decided to sit next to me after his round with a couple of pints and then talked me through each hole whilst I was trying to do my results. If anyone is remotely interested Jim finished in 3rd place alongside Dave Blood(8) Andy Sandham(7) and Dave Collinson(8).

Spiderman creator Stan Lee passed away last night and it was the ‘Fantastic four’ from Lymm and Warrington who played like Marvels today to take 2nd place. ‘Captain America’ lookalike Roger Percival(5), ‘Iron man’ Martin France(3), ‘Whiplash Ed Wilkinson’ (6) and the ‘Incredible Bulk’ Pete Atherton(12) all joined forces to destroy most of their enemies.

Signal man Paul Wrigley(6) from Hopwood and his team steamed into 1st place with 89 points. He teamed up with Aiden Hoosen(+1) Ken Hardy (2) and Steve Barker(12). Hardy played 5 holes mid round in five under as he followed up an eagle with a run of birdies. As he tried to hole his putt on the last there were a few leaves on Wrigley’s line, but according to the railway man they were the right kind of leaves and he rolled in his putt. Well played chaps great win.

Thanks to all who played today EVERYONE seemed to enjoy this great course.

Yours in Golf, Tim
