Maxitours at truly fantastic Fairhaven

Wow! What a great day to play golf at Fairhaven. Not a drop of rain, a challenging seaside breeze and superb greens ensured a great tournament was enjoyed by all.

The Clubhouse has been fully refurbished and is now one of the best in the North West. Many thanks to all the friendly Fairhaven staff for your terrific hospitality.

Steve Reed played like Eddie Pepperell today. The European Tour golfer got fined last week as he ran out of golf balls and Steve was heading the same way before he discovered a tatty molitor ball in the rough to keep his dismal round alive.

It was great to see Roger Percival and his Lymm team travelling to Fairhaven . Roger is a lovely man and a very intelligent golfer. He plans ahead and always puts on a little bit of weight this time of year to see him insulated on the golf course through the cold winter. Good thinking Roger.

Steve Foxcroft and his Knutsford team were delighted with both the food and service at the exceptional half way house. The attractive waitress greeted the quartet of seventy year old golfers as they came off the 9th green ‘What do you young boys want?’. She asked them.

With 16 holes in play everyone played two extra holes and these varied in difficulty. After much working out final scores were adjusted to reflect this. (Teams scored an average of 4.5 points per hole throughout the day. The toughest holes for teams to score on throughout the day were 6th (3.4) 17th (3.9) 7th (4.0) and 9th (4.0) and the easiest holes were 5th (5.5) 8th (5.25) 12th (5.25) and 4th (5) holes. Teams playing the tougher holes were given extra shots and vice-versa)

Scoring was exceptionally close. Ashton in Makerfield’s Neil Edwards(7) Ste Woods(17) Adie Price(12) and Jimmy McEwan(7) took 3rd place with 86 points. ‘These lads can’t play any better than that’ Observed likeable team Captain Neil.

Heyrose superstars Ian Hellens(11), Alan Morris(11), Steve Blakeway(2) and Phil McCurry(18) were popular winners and they took first place with 87 points. This score was matched by Withingtons Martin Keats(3), Brian Hopkins(6), Steve Marsh(8) and Neil Worthington(17) also on 87 points but Hellens team managed to win the card play off.

After working out all the adjusted scores I am going to bed.

Thanks to everyone for your support today. I had just one cancellation this morning which is unusual from my classy players. Thanks to everyone else for your character and integrity I am sure you were rewarded with a great day on the links.

Yours in Golf, Tim
