Maxitours at brilliant Vale Royal

Despite yesterday’s torrential deluge Vale Royal was well and truly open for today’s Maxitours event.

The course is built on sand and is a joy to play in Winter. Thanks to all the green staff for allowing us to play and for preparing the course to such a high standard. Those greens are a credit to you.

Firstly, apologies for playing off the White tees, the course was playing too long after the rain. I thought that only the white tees were out. We will be off the yellows when we return next month I promise!

Graham Harding came down from Buxton to play in Maxitours today and there was quite a thick frost on his car first thing this morning. He explained that they even have frost in July up there. He carefully cleared it away from his main windscreen using his credit card. Then he slowly scraped each window so he had a perfect view He then pressed his car key to get in and realised his car was parked further down the street. Things didn’t improve for the Derbyshire man on the golf course and it was his team who were frosty after he only contributed three times. He got out his credit card again in the bar.

Some chilly rain fell for an hour at Midday but fortunately things brightened up for everyone nicely in the afternoon. Knutsford nice guy Steve Foxcroft has a swing with more moving parts than a swiss watch. He found that wearing five layers, a daft bobble hat and a budget waterproof top severely restricted his movement. He played great with his new more efficient compact swing. He plans to wear three sweaters all Summer.

In today’s event Mellor and Townscliffe legend Chris Lee holed his 2nd shot on the 11th as he recorded two twos in his round today. The rest of his team were rubbish.

Scoring was excellent at the top end of the leader board. Jim Clarke is possibly the wealthiest man in Knutsford. He is definitely the most competitive. He led his team to a terrific 86 points and 3rd place. Abersoch’s Peter Ledger(19) did the damage today. Mark Hagarty(12) and Graham ‘the pie’ Jackson(8) also played great.

Lymm golf Club star Roger Percival(6) continued his good form alongside Ed Wilkinson(6) Martin France(2) and Josh Brand(4). Roger had four gross birdies on the back nine to seal second place on the card play-off.

Jim Caldwell is definitey the wealthiest man in Wilmslow. He can also play a bit of golf when he wants to. His team of Don Bailey(12) Steve Barlow (5) and Andrew Aherne(16) rolled in far more than their fair share of putts on the true surfaces to take first place. Well played chaps great scoring!

Thanks again for your continued integrity and 100% attendance.
One more event before Christmas!

Yours in Golf, Tim
