*Still spaces at Mottram Hall Thursday 2nd January- I played there last week and the greens are excellent.
*THE GREAT NEW MAXITOURS SUMMER SCHEDULE RELEASED THIS WEEK!!
Maxitours at wonderful Warrington
Warrington Golf Club was the latest superb venue for our Maxitours event. This free draining course is a very popular venue for our players and the greens were tremendous for December. The fairways were also firm and rolling incredibly well. Even Roy Ainsworth hit his drive well over one hundred and fifty yards on the downwind, downhill first hole.
The breakfast was excellent and plenty of players also enjoyed their post round drink in the Swish newly refurbished bar. Thanks to everyone at this friendly Club for hosting a great day.
The rain held off until 4pm so all players finished without getting wet.
‘That was wonderful. It was so dry out there my trousers and golf shoes are still immaculate!’ reported well-dressed Mike Spencer. Kev Hart never looks immaculate but even he couldn’t fault the excellent condition of the golf course. Kevin plays regularly but never wins a bean. He thought he may win a prize today after his team scored 82 points but just narrowly missed out. In a heart warming gesture reflecting the true spirit of Christmas I decided to extend the prize table and he wins a scorecard holder worth at least £4.50.
When he checks in each week chatty Richard Wakefield talks more even drivel to me than the average golfer. I found out today that he has a two-hour slot on GMR radio where he can happily talk his gobbledygook all day long about anything he wants and he doesn’t care who is listening. He scored an eagle on the par fourth 11th hole today. That should take up about an hour and a half of next weeks show.
I know Christmas is nearly here when intelligent Oxford zoology graduate Mick Mahon has his annual haircut and close shave. In the last event of decade he came in looking much smarter than normal with barely hair out of place. Unfortunately a strong wind whipped up late on in his round and he looked his normal bedraggled self as he handed in his team scorecard.
In todays event the scoring was excellent. Third place went to Richard Blackwell’s Mottram Hall team with 87 points. But they were pipped by the Ashton in Makerfield quartet of George Andrews(16) Jason Atherton(10) Damon Lawrenson(6) and Mark Delaney(22). They had an excellent 46 points on the back nine for their best finish of the season.
Taking the honours was Carden Parks Paul Fell (5) Nigel Ashton(13) Dave Cooper(18) Colin Bryan(9). These guys play each week but have had a barren four months. Fell has just returned from golfing in Dubai and his mid Winter practice paid off with some great golf today. Dave Cooper is normally hopeless but he played unusually well picking up six points for his team. Great golf chaps well played.
Brian Ankers tells me he is off to buy his wife a wooden leg for Christmas. ‘She asked me to buy her a nice stocking filler this year.’ Added the dry Lymm legend.
Finally, many thanks for your support this year. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year,
Tim, Suzy, Ella and James.
