Maxitours at red hot Hazel Grove

The England Golf ‘Golf Club of the year 2022’ proudly hosted the latest Maxitours event.

This terrific Club won the award not only because it has high quality golf course, Clubhouse, caterers and PGA Professionals but it is also very proactive in it work introducing juniors and ladies to the game and working with special needs groups. Keep up the great work Hazel Grove- congratulations on this outstanding achievement.

I love coming to Hazel Grove, the course is a pleasure to play and everyone makes us feel so welcome. The ladies at the half way house do a great job and parking attendants are provided. Thank you.

The strange talking Yorkshire four were over again today from their home coal mining town of Barnsley. They always bring stories of keeping magpies as pets or sleeping in shoe boxes etc.

‘We have a new player joining us today called ‘Terry Scargill.’’ Reported team Captain Rob Platt I thought he was joking.

‘Is that his real name?’

‘Yeah and his striking is second to none.’

There are three things good golfers never do – 1. put head covers on their irons 2.use castle tees. Number three is possibly the worst of all and it was John Lynsky who did the unthinkable today. He played three holes with a driving range ball. UNFORGIVABLE. He has let everybody down today.

Old Bill Ogley’s is still fairly new to the game. It was his first time playing Maxitours and also his first time at Hazel Grove. Nigel Uttley tried to talk the 70 year old out of hitting his driver on the risk reward 15th hole. He completely ignored him and drove to the fringe of the green and holed his putt to win nearest the pin in two shots. Easy game. Golfing Moral of the story: Don’t listen to Nigel Uttley.

Superb greens and ideal weather conditions meant scoring was excellent on the Mackenzie masterpiece.

Third place went to the popular Sandbach quartet of Dave Goodwin(7), Richard Williamson(10), housewife superstar Phil Robinson(7) and legend in his own lunchtime Paul Woodbine(8) They scored 86 points with a very strong 46 points on the back nine.

Second place went to the senior Heyrose quartet of Les Penson(15), George ‘three birdies in a row’ Kerr(1), Paul Salt (14)and Cheshire senior Steve Blakeway(1). Penson was on fire on the front nine.

They were pipped on the back nine by Bramall Parks Ian Fensom (11)who teamed up with lovable Kev Hart(9), Paul Yearsley(6) and Ted Mansfield(13) to take 1st place. Hart picked up seven shots with another impressive display. Two successive wins sees a three shot handicap reduction each for this talented Davyhulme team who have just found some great form.

Thanks to everyone for your support. Tim
