Maxitours at lovely Llangollen

It was a day of two halves at stunning Llangollen today. The morning starters had a couple of hours heavy rain to contend with but those teeing of later enjoyed glorious autumn sunshine and receptive greens. If you had a bad score this afternoon there were no excuses.

Thank you for supporting the host clubhouse bar and caterer. The chef told me that he sold about thirty English breakfasts this morning. Chunky Gary Phillips enjoyed his breakfast so much he nearly supported him twice.

Jonny Barton is a really great bloke. He has one of those faces that just makes you smile. His only previous Maxitours mention was at Llangollen last year when the same wasp followed him for three holes. ‘It was attracted to me’. He reported afterwards.
Last week he won a prize for the very first time and he picked it up today. I have never seen a man look so happy. He was kissing it as he left the club house.
’I don’t even want to unwrap it’. He added.

There were about five seasons in one day in this lovely Welsh valley.
‘I really enjoyed that course, are you coming back?’ Asked Tim Potter.
‘Yes, we are back in April.’
‘What’s the weather like then?’ He asked.

Pete Waters isn’t as daft as he looks. He handed his card in with a below average 71 points.
‘That’s not in last place is it? He asked.
‘No.’
‘Brilliant! That’s the plan.’ And he walked away absolutely delighted. As long as his team doesn’t finish last they all celebrate with a beer.
Very good plan Pete.

Second place went to tough seventy-year old Dave Cooper and his local Welsh team with 83 points and they definitely played in the worst of the weather. His hardy team mates were Neil Tanner(10) Dave Reece(15) and Dave Kelly(10).

Gary Smith(7) and his team had gone for well over a year without a sniff of winning and then just like waiting for a bus -two come along at once. The popular team had the best of the weather but picking up an impressive 44 points on the back nine saw them home. I watched them play the classic Llangollen 18th hole and Smith narrowly missed out on nearest the pin, but coolly rolled in his birdie putt. Well played chaps. Great golf.

Thanks to everyone for your 100% support today. Everyone turned up despite a dodgy forecast. Class.
All the best,

Tim.
