Maxitours at amazing Astbury

Astbury was beautiful today. This stunning Cheshire course is a delight to play and the greens were superb.

‘What a great place to play golf. Astbury has canals, railway lines, testing long holes, fun short holes, views of the peak district and situated on the Cheshire plain. This club has it all.’ Reported poetic Pete Silvester.

The weather was hot and it was good to see so much water being consumed by my players before and during play. Mike Lowe was so surprised by his 250 yard drive on the 13th he decided to have a lie down for half an hour and call an ambulance. The lovely Chester man is fully rehydrated now and I am delighted to say I have spoken to him and he is back to his best.

Tony Hope collected a lovely sea green Oscar Jacobsen top from a win last week.

‘That’s a beautiful top – it’s exactly the same colour as my wife’s eyes!’ Said an emotional Hope. I think the sun had got to him. More water Tony.

It was great to see the two sponsors teams playing well. John Winstanley had a tap in two on the 15th and Keith Thompsons charismatic team had a solid 79.

Talented Stuart Blake hit the shot of a lifetime to within 8 inches on the 15th only to watch Mike Waters knock it to 6 inches 20 minutes later to narrowly pip him.

John Harker, Jason Atherton, Graham Holden and Steve Woods took 3rd place with 85 points.

Jim Caldwell, Martyn Berrisford, John Roome and Russell Cash led for much of the day after 86 points in the first match out.

Taking the honours with 87 points was new slimline Dan Moore, Tony Jennison, Richard Blackwell and John Hilton. Dan’s two on the tough 15th was crucial and set up a strong finish which saw the team pick up 6 shots on the tough four closing holes. Excellent golf.
