Maxitours at red hot Romiley
What a lovely day. Everyone was really impressed by the Romiley golf course.
The general consensus was that this is a really enjoyable golf course to play presented in wonderful condition – the fairways were exceptional despite the recent drought. Thanks to everyone at this special Club.
So many players said they were looking forward to playing it next year already!
The catering was superb and the high-quality bacon sandwiches were possibly the best on the rota this year.
My diet started today. Instead of having a pie for lunch I went for the healthy option and opted for the famous Romiley golf club goats cheese and spring onion ‘quiche’. It was very nice but as I was eating it suddenly struck me that I was basically eating a cheese and onion pie without the top on. I ordered a portion of chips to cheer me up.
I’ll start my diet tomorrow.
Scoring was excellent on the rolling Romiley links.
Davyhulmes Kevin Hart, Paul Yearsley, John Davies and Mark Foley all played well to score 89 points and a homeward 47 points should win any card play off. Unfortunately for them Simon Raine, Denis Greenup, Roland Horridge and Phil Cort matched them on the back nine but had a better last 6 holes. They had to settle for 3rd place.
Winning today was the Ashton in Makerfield team of John Harker MBE, Steve Woods, Tony Hope and Jimmy Shirley. They had a super team effort for a Maxitours best of the Season 91 points. Harker has served his country well in the army and he was also marshalling his troops today to keep them out of harms way. Keeping out of the rough and finding the tight Romiley fairways was a priority. Well played guys great score.
