Maxitours at heavenly Helsby
It was another great day for Maxitours players at Helsby in the heart of Cheshire. Whilst heavy overnight rain had closed many of the North Wests’ finest courses this cracking parkland treat had superbly prepared greens and tees and was well and truly open!
PGA professional Chris Cousins is brilliant and 4 of our players needed to cancel unless I could get them out very early this morning. Chris came in to work especially to welcome them at 7.30am and then returned home to do the school run with his young family.
Top class service – thanks Chris
The caterers and bar staff at Helsby are also exceptional.
Most players managed to get around in just less than four hours – many thanks for your consideration of your fellow golfers- brilliant!!
Roy Ainsworth used his skill with a wedge to fish his ball out of the stream to the left of the 16th fairway He had struggled to get his ball in the hole all day but as he flicked his ball out of the ditch it flew down a drainage pipe and disappeared forever.
‘Just my luck’ Complained the extremely well liked Antrobus man.
‘His golf went down the drain years ago.’ Chuckled team mate Brian Ankers.
Portly Pete Atherton is a bit confused.
He was looking slightly slimmer than normal so I gave him a rare compliment.
‘Looking good Pete -how have you lost that belly?’
‘I’ve given up Diet Coke.’. He replied.
Martin Higgins is away on a cruise next week. His pinnacle had a little cruise of its own down the water hazard on the tough 6th hole.
Scoring was tough with very little run on the excellent fairways and subtle slopes on the greens.
Pete Dobson has had a few poor finishes recently but things were much better today as his team collected 82 points to earn a 4th place finish. Mark Worsley(5) Michael Barnes(18) and Dave Briggs(9) were his talented team mates.
Jim Caldwell(11) is as competitive as ever and his team of Bob Picthall(14) Pete Maxwell(11) and Dave Thomas(17) picked up shots on the 17th and 18th holes when all around them teams were throwing points away like confetti. They finished 3rd.
Paul Fell(4) is a great bloke and he had his ‘A team out today. They had their best round for three months to take 2nd place with 83 points.
‘I’m not blaming Nigel Ashton(12) but he did hit it out of bounds when he had a shot on the 17th ‘ Reported the competitive Welshman.
Ian Venables(13) and Ben Kinsey(4) also played nicely.
Bramalls Les Russon is another lovely man and he had an amazing day on the links. He had a Maxitours first when he won both nearest the pins. (His first shot hit the flag and finished 3 inches away and on the 18th hole his ball trickled agonisingly past the hole) His team mates Bramall Captain Ian Handy(12) Rob Kenyon(15) ad Dave Williams(13) made the most of Les’ form and all contributed to a narrow victory.
Well played chaps!
Thanks for your support, Tim.
