**Fantastic Summer Schedule released tomorrow afternoon!**

Maxitours at stunning Delamere Forest

Another full field enjoyed the wonderful Delamere Forest golf course in todays pairs betterball event.

This great Golf Club is also one of the most exclusive in the country and anyone proposed for membership must be approved by every Committee member. There is a rumour that when a premiership footballer applied for membership recently there were so many black balls flying around the committee room looked like the corner of a rabbit hutch.

Delamere is quite rightly recognised as perhaps the best Inland Winter course in the North of the country and today the greens were a great credit to Paul the Head Greenkeeper and his very hard working staff.

‘What a great course’ said John Travolta lookalike Roger Percival, ‘those greens were unbelievably good’ he added. Percival had earlier rolled in a lovely eagle put on the 2nd to help his team record 46 points which earned a 4th place finish.

Peter Coughlin and Mike Wilson continued their good form as they also collected 46 points with the poorly dressed Mike Wilson collecting back to back birdies on the 7th and 8th holes.

The great Severiano Ballesteros recorded no holes in one in a tremendous playing career. Today Colin Roberts recorded the fifth hole in one of his incredibly average playing career. A delighted Roberts looked like a chubby Hale Irwin as he did a lap of honour around the 6th tee, high fiving his three playing partners before nearly falling into the pond below, after holing his tee shot on Delamere Forests signature 6th hole.

Big and very likeable Dave Antrobus represented Britain at Karate in the 1970’s. Sometimes, when he is playing poorly, he still shows off his fine chopping action as he makes his way around the right side of the golf course. Today Dave teamed up with his new best friend John Anderton and they played great golf to score 47 points. Seven handicapper Antrobus from Vale Royal recorded four birdies ‘it was a great team effort’ said Antrobus ‘even if I did play a lot better than my partner’.

Neil Todd loves his golf but despite being a great supporter of Maxitours he has never had a top three finish. Today the golfing Gods looked down on him and decided that this was his day. ‘That was the best I have ever played’ said a stunned Todd. A chip in for a birdie on the last meant a 47 point hall for the Cheadle man and his better looking partner Don Milligan, and they took the honours with a fine back nine performance. Well played chaps.

Prestbury Masters

Another full field turned up to enjoy the Spring sunshine and fantastic course in todays Maxitours event at Prestbury Golf Club.
During last Novembers Maxitours event, Wayne Rooney was up his ladder cleaning the guttering and was very impressed as he watched Mike Daggitt made a lovely birdie on the 15th hole. Today Rooney delayed setting off for tonights match at Old Trafford to watch Daggitt in action. He was very disappointed to see the Bramall man fighting with a couple of daffodils on his way to a very scrappy bogey.
Rooneys mood soon improved when Dick Perry made a tremendous eagle on the tough par four 16th hole and Colleen even had to stop him from running over the course as he tried to give Perry a football style hug and kiss.
Peter Coughlin and Mike Wilson were delighted to record their highest ever finish as 44 points earned them second place. Peter and Mike are lovely chaps who enjoy playing golf in the same scruffy outfits each week, tonight they were in danger of not being recognised by their wives as they returned home proudly wearing their trendy new Galvin Green sweaters.
Ian King and Darren Whittaker have played plenty of bad golf recently however today they were back to their best as ‘Oil Magnate’ King recorded three birdies in his teams 44 points as they finished third.
Paul Bradley and Seamus Keegan, and Paul Tomasson and Mike Bishop also played great golf to be in the prizes with 43 points.
American tour pro Hunter Mahan ‘has a swing so sweet you could pour it over a pancake’ as the Americans would say. He recently had his biggest career victory when he beat Rory McIlroy to win the World Matchplay Championship. Today charismatic Mick Mahon (who looks like he has eaten too many pancakes) also recorded the biggest win of his career as he teamed up with Richard Palmer and they scored a terrific 45 points to take the honours in some style.
Liam Harrison was as sick as a parrott when partner Graham Brownhill three putted the last green to miss out on victory by a shot. Brownhill hit a great approach shot into the last however he was very disappointed to see his ball finish in three putt territory on the back fringe. This is known game as an Arthur Scargill (great strike, poor result.)

Pristine Ringway Results

Spring finally arrived as 116 Maxitours players battled through the sweltering Manchester heat on the lovely Ringway course today.
Unfortunately Brian Mottram suffered a touch of sunstroke which made him a little delirious and he then had a couple of pints which sent him over the edge: ‘I ll take you to watch Stoke City play one Saturday Tim, you’ll really enjoy it, they have got some great players’ he gibbered.
March is normally a time of year when golf courses look a little bit scruffy after a long Winter. Ringway however, was immaculate and once again a real credit to the superb greenstaff who were up early preparing the course with pride for todays players- many thanks chaps.
In a touching tribute to the late talented pop star Dave Jones who passed away yesterday Paul Taylor, Barry Rigby, John Wreag and John Baxter all decided to play like a team of monkeys and they returned a score of just 60 points.
Richard Preston was very excited as he skipped to the first tee clutching his fantastic new Taylor Made white headed R11 Driver. He was looking forward to destroying the Ringway course with his new weapon.
‘Do you do trade-ins?’ he asked on completion of his round. For anyone interested in Richards driver the top of the club is a bit scuffed where he got under the ball once or twice, but the sweetspot is still in absolutely immaculate condition.
In todays event the Denton team recorded 78 points to take 5th position. Ian George and Steve Dunphy are great lads who both work for Servisair at the nearby airport. They often struggle to get permission to play from their wives today however they told them that were putting in a shift at Ringway this afternoon- everyone was a winner!
Trevor Golds, Mike Lynch, Keith Bowden and John Keenan played superb golf as they scored 81 points. ‘Trevor played great’ said his team ‘he is normally absolutely hopeless.’
The Irish team of Frank Garvey, John Dolan, Seamus Keegan and Paul Bradley had another strong finish as they scored 83 points to record their second top three finish in recent weeks. Eamonn Darcy lookalike Frank Garvey normally plays like Mrs Darcy, however big hearted Frank birdied the 4th and 11th holes as he held his team together with some really magical shots.
Taking the honours was Frank Massey and his Swinton Park team. Neville Dennis is struggling with an ear infection and he was replaced by 3 handicapper Ian Taylor who played tremendous golf as the experienced team scored 86 points to win by three shots. Irishman Jimmy O’Reilly was delighted with his win, ‘we played well to be sure, to be sure’.

Maxitours Shotsaver Masters at Conwy

Stunning weather, a stunning golf course and plenty of stunning Welsh bar staff greeted the 100 English Maxitour competitors who marauded over the mountains to play today. The Conwy course is in superb condition and was enjoyed by all.
The event was kindly supported by long time Maxitours sponsor ‘Shotsaver’ who have a terrific selection of quality GPS and laser rangefinders. They gave all todays competitors the option to take one of their latest models on the golf course to try. Most Maxitours players gratefully supported the sponsor however John Hilton kindly offered his opinion:
‘I don’t want one of them bloody things -it will just bu**er up me game.’
Alsagers’ Colin Roberts and Greg Pointon set the early pace with 41 points, this was matched by Chorlton’s Paul Bennett and Malc Brownhill. Hazel Grove’s Ian Ainsworth and Alan Clough again surprised themselves as they also had 41 points for their top 5 finish. Northendens Carl Kennedy and policeman Joe York also recorded 41 points. York was tired after a lucrative late shift and the newly qualified copper happily reported his number of arrests was now at 19 ‘the best of these was arresting a whole family of four in one go last week.’
Wealthy Knutsford Building contractors David Wilkinson and Matt Dobson are always keen to acquire new land however today it was their turn to ‘lose the plot’ as they failed to score on their last two holes as they recorded an average 32 points.
Richard Goldbold claims he is 70 years old, (some would say he looks slightly older) today the silver haired magician become the oldest player in Maxitours history to make an eagle. Richards drive and well struck three wood on the downwind par five fifteenth set up straightforward 30 yard eagle putt from the fringe which Godbold stroked home in some style. His partnr Dennis Humphries was not to be outdone and his birdie on the 16th helped the likeable duo to record 41 points for third position.
Gary Garner has not recorded a top ten finish in his previous 12 outings. Today he teamed up with his twenty year old son and was delighted to achieve 2nd spot with 42 points.
Todays top honours went to another father and son combination, Brett and Gavin Sutcliffe from North Manchester . They played great golf in the easier morning conditions and 25 year old Brett birdied both the 1st and the 11th hole to do most of the damage. ‘It is about time he did something useful’ reported his proud, but less talented Dad.
Maxitours ever present Ian King was unable to play today as he was having a floor fitted to his new extension and his wife wouldn’t let him out to play.
Dave Stanhope and Roy Bramwell both won nearest the pins with terrific shots. The Assistant pro Andy picked up the markers for me and said what terrific golfers the two must be to knock it so close. I soon put him right on that matter.
