Maxitours at fantastic Vale Royal

Another stunning day greeted the full field of Maxitours competitors at Vale Royal today. It is lovely to have so many positive compliments throughout the day. I love hearing my players being so happy.
Thanks also to my lovely wife Suzy and my equally lovely mother in law Jane for doing a great job running the second half of the day for me.

Vale royal really is a special place, a tremendous golf course and the most impressive Clubhouse in the North always guarantees a great day out.

The greens were truly wonderful and pretty slick on the downhillers.
‘Danny Willet would have no chance around here!’ Chuckled Tytherington’s Gary Butler. ‘They look like a table that has had two coats of pledge.‘

.
There are quite a few scruffy foxes wandering around in Liverpool but nature loving scouser Dave McDougall was close to tears after witnessing a beautiful Cheshire fox and her three cubs walk across the 18th tee this evening. ‘It was magic’ declared the big softie. He was so overcome with emotion that he hit his tee shot at right angles into the deep rough.
In the words of our lovely late Queen Ellizabeth his playing partner asked him to: ‘Wear the fox hat.’

Phil Harris(9) and his pals from Heyrose were one of the few teams that handled the greens and they had a great score of 90 to secure a first ever victory after 15 years of failure. Kenny Plumb(9) sounds like he could sort out a dripping tap but he drained a few putts today and didn’t leak many shots at all. Craig Stubbs(9) and Anthony Barker(22) completed the likeable team.

Second place went to on form Lancastrians Mick Mahon, Dave Westwood, John Farnsworth and Richard Palmer with 88.

Four teams tied on 86 points with Lymm’s charismatic Sam Leach(9), John Mather(10), Jim Hodges (3)and housewife favourite Jonny Barton (14) taking third on the card play-off. Excellent.

Thanks to everyone for your 100% attendance

Amazing.

Results from lovely Leigh

*Portugal January 2023 is full apart from Colin Roberts requiring 2 players and another team requiring a single player – let me know if you want to join this fabulous trip*

Vale Royal next Weds – full – remember 2 weeks notice if you need to cancel – thanks for your continued integrity.

Winter schedule released later this week.

Maxitours at lovely Leigh

Perfect weather and an immaculate golf course greeted Maxitours players at Leigh this morning.

The course is really enjoyable to play with plenty of interesting short holes and then it bites back with five tough closing holes. The fairways and greens were blemish free and really blooming after the weekend downfalls.

‘That golf course was incredible!’ Declared Saddleworths Dave Sarsfield.

.’It is so well presented.’

The day started badly when I loaned my glasses to ‘wide headed’ Neale Laurent so he could check handicaps on his phone. They will never be the same again. Things improved when I saw the crisp selection behind the bar. There are a maxitours record 12 varieties on offer. Wotsits and monster munch were the biggest sellers today but it was Dave English who was quavering as he missed his 18 inch put for a two on the15th.

Scoring was very close with John Longworth(11), Paul Hurst(11), John Morton (11) and Gary Neiles(4) from Sandiway taking third on 86 points.

Wilmslows Jim Caldwell(8)Peter Griggs(11) Dave Thomas (14) and Dan McIntyre(11) took 2nd. A terrific birdie at the last from Dan was crucial as they recorded 87 points.

Winning on a back nine card play off was Knutsford father and son Jim (9) and Chris(6) Clark, Graham Jackson(11) and Pete Ledger(16). Chris was the main man as he played the first eight holes three under par. A solid 43 points on the back nine was good enough to secure the win. Well played chaps.

Thanks to everyone for your support today.

Maxitours at Brilliant Cavendish

Spaces at excellent Leigh golf club next Tuesday- best greens in Manchester!!

Maxitours at Cavendish

Another amazing day an a very special golf course. Next years event is booked and in my diary!

It is hard to believe that Cavendish nearly closed in 2019 but some great management, excellent fund raising, a class professional and the growing popularity of golf has turned things around.

This place is a Classic and always a pleasure to play. The first few groups may have disagreed after they played the first few holes in Derbyshire rain but the clouds soon parted and the afternoon was glorious. Alaster Mackenzies terrific design was enjoyed by all.

Covid memories came flooding back as this was our first venue when things were returning to normal a couple of years ago. I was sealed into a tiny cupboard protected by a wall of Perspex today it was refreshing to see things were back to normal and lots of players even helped themselves to my bowl of chips.

The greens at Cavendish tend to get the better of most teams and today was no different.

‘We struggled a bit out there it’s the sort of golf course you need to know.’ Remarked Steve Rydal.
‘Id play it better next time.’
‘ You played here last year’ Reminded his playing partner.
‘ Oh yeah, I forgot.’

There are five shortish par threes on the course and the greens were rolling perfectly and there were a season record number of winners in the sweep. Even George Pearson managed a two so things must have been easy.

The course is only short but it is a real test of mental resolve. Dave Sarsfield’s club was hurled further than his tee shot on the 18th after he finally crumbled.

Fast fairways and receptive greens meant scoring was excellent.

Ex-copper Neale Laurent(14), Adam Thomas(6) Gary Berrisford(6) and Lee Compton took 2nd with 86 points.

It was Sale’s Martin Williams(13), Simon Hartland(7), Martin Bray(7) and John Tomlinson(19) who took first place with a wonderful 88 points. These guys love Cavendish and have played here many times, they used their knowledge of the course wisely.

Well played chaps, thanks to all teams for your attendance.

Yours in Golf, Tim
