Maxitours At beautiful Bromborough

A magnificent day on a tremendous golf course ensured a wonderful day for all.
‘That is by far the best golf course I have played all year! ‘ Reported knowledgeable Bob Eastwood after his three and a half hour round.
.

Dave Lomax knows a lot about golf courses and John Hilton knows a lot about bar staff and both were raving about their own specialist subject after play.
‘We have had a terrific day, everything here is first class.’

Being near Liverpool the staff have that lovely scouse sense of humour. The waitress brought me a superb chicken and bacon salad and I remarked how nice it looked and if she had made it?
‘No my job is just to run around like a blue arsed fly’ Brilliant.
All the staff were absolutely top notch today and the bar was open from food for twelve hours – amazing. It is great to see a man happy in his job and barman Paddy was class. Thank you Bromborough.

Harry Green was approaching the 9th when I saw him. I commented to him on what a stunning summers day it was and he replied that there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Not long after there wasn’t a ball in the sky either as his 50 yard lob shot was thinned across the green into a thick bush.

With the open just around the corner next month the Wirral parkland course was also playing like a links venue. The scoring was exceptionally close once again.
It was the longest day of the year yesterday but tonight will feel a bit longer for Simon Poucher after he missed from 12 inches at the last to cost his team a top 4 finish.
The Birchwood team of Simon Wilkinson, John Linsky, Barry Wilson and Dave Monk took 3rd with 84 points
Before play Lewis Marland was moaning – ‘I’ve been playing well but I’ll never win one of these.’
Well Lewis just ask Matt Fitzpatrick if dreams do come true. Lewis’s team recorded 85 points but as the breeze picked up and the golf course toughened up scoring got worse and Lewis was in contention. The likeable Mancunian had to settle for second place however as late in the day the Phil Gow Wirral team just pipped him and destroyed the fairytale ending.

Heswall is just around the corner and this local team made the most of their course knowledge to take 1st place with 87 points. Jamie Lloyd (10)is the handicap secretary at this prestigious club and he knows how to pick an in form team. Phil Gow(6) Mark Sanderson(6) and Shay Keogh(4) all contributed well. The team picked up 4 shots on the closing four holes as all around them teams were throwing shots away.

Well played chaps great victory.
Thanks to everyone for your support, Tim

Maxitours at red hot Hazel Grove

The England Golf ‘Golf Club of the year 2022’ proudly hosted the latest Maxitours event.

This terrific Club won the award not only because it has high quality golf course, Clubhouse, caterers and PGA Professionals but it is also very proactive in it work introducing juniors and ladies to the game and working with special needs groups. Keep up the great work Hazel Grove- congratulations on this outstanding achievement.

I love coming to Hazel Grove, the course is a pleasure to play and everyone makes us feel so welcome. The ladies at the half way house do a great job and parking attendants are provided. Thank you.

The strange talking Yorkshire four were over again today from their home coal mining town of Barnsley. They always bring stories of keeping magpies as pets or sleeping in shoe boxes etc.

‘We have a new player joining us today called ‘Terry Scargill.’’ Reported team Captain Rob Platt I thought he was joking.

‘Is that his real name?’

‘Yeah and his striking is second to none.’

There are three things good golfers never do – 1. put head covers on their irons 2.use castle tees. Number three is possibly the worst of all and it was John Lynsky who did the unthinkable today. He played three holes with a driving range ball. UNFORGIVABLE. He has let everybody down today.

Old Bill Ogley’s is still fairly new to the game. It was his first time playing Maxitours and also his first time at Hazel Grove. Nigel Uttley tried to talk the 70 year old out of hitting his driver on the risk reward 15th hole. He completely ignored him and drove to the fringe of the green and holed his putt to win nearest the pin in two shots. Easy game. Golfing Moral of the story: Don’t listen to Nigel Uttley.

Superb greens and ideal weather conditions meant scoring was excellent on the Mackenzie masterpiece.

Third place went to the popular Sandbach quartet of Dave Goodwin(7), Richard Williamson(10), housewife superstar Phil Robinson(7) and legend in his own lunchtime Paul Woodbine(8) They scored 86 points with a very strong 46 points on the back nine.

Second place went to the senior Heyrose quartet of Les Penson(15), George ‘three birdies in a row’ Kerr(1), Paul Salt (14)and Cheshire senior Steve Blakeway(1). Penson was on fire on the front nine.

They were pipped on the back nine by Bramall Parks Ian Fensom (11)who teamed up with lovable Kev Hart(9), Paul Yearsley(6) and Ted Mansfield(13) to take 1st place. Hart picked up seven shots with another impressive display. Two successive wins sees a three shot handicap reduction each for this talented Davyhulme team who have just found some great form.

Thanks to everyone for your support. Tim

Maxitours at beautiful North Wales
The best day of the year greeted Maxitours players at the superb North Wales golf course.
The gentlest of breezes, blue skies and a very playable golf course led to some excellent scoring throughout the day.

The staff at North Wales are the best in the business. Jamie behind the bar is excellent and loved by his membership. His Dad Richard runs the pro shop and is also a class act admired by his fellow professionals. Secretary Phil Beard is one of the nicest men in golf. Thanks everyone.

Richard Harper is scared of seagulls. Before play he was having a drink on the patio when a seagull actually landed on a fellow maxitours players head. He nearly drove home and had to be persuaded to play to support the team. They thought he had gone home on the front nine but eventually calmed down enough on the 11th hole to finally get on the card.

The view from the clubhouse is amazing and the 14th tee is within touching distance so it is fascinating to watch the different swings on show. One unnamed player had a particularly wild swing and nearly threw himself off his feet.
‘Good job he’s got a stiff shaft or he could have strangled himself.’ Observed Stuart Hibbert.

Someone asked me if there really was a team in the name of Paul Evans who recorded unbelievably bad scores of 63, 66 to finish last by 20 shots. They thought that it may have been an imaginary score invented by me to make everyone else feel better. I can assure you that it is a real team and they were trying their hardest.
Last year we had a hole in one on the 16th and Roger Percival matched that feat today – brilliant.
After a vote of no confidence last night from his disgruntled team Dave Griffiths had the mother of all comebacks and led his team into 3rd place today. The transformation into a golfer was quite remarkable.

Winning today’s event with a terrific 89 points was Gareth Winston’s Dukinfield team.

They all played great golf especially over the closing holes where they had four gross birdies on the 15th and 16th holes to really make their move. Well played guys – quality golf.

In the overall event the ‘wealthyish’ Prestbury team led by John Owen who took third place after a solid 87 points.

The British Olympic Taekwondo coaches from Denton golf club took 2nd place after adding an 89 to their opening 85.

It was Kevin Harts’ team who hung on to top place. They have had 4 months in the wilderness without winning a bean but were on fire this week to take a popular victory. Well played chaps.

Thanks to everyone for your tremendous support- It looked like everyone had a great two days by the coast.
Thanks very much,
Tim

Maxitours at classy Conwy

*Please check tomorrows times below which may have changed by a few minutes.

First day of the Welsh Classic

Perfect golfing conditions greeted the full field of Maxitours competitors at Conwy today. A championship standard golf course with superbly rolling fairways and receptive greens ensured a great day would be had by all.

What a great course!

Conwy is used as a training base for a few national teams and at 8am this morning the Switzerland national girls team teed off in front of our players. Graham Kershaw couldn’t believe how simple and effortless the swings were. Graham was fascinated especially as he is regularly told that his own swing has more moving parts a Swiss watch.

Conwy is a class venue and they even hand out a little sheet with pin positions on. Stuart Hibbert hits about three greens in regulation a year so he decided to help the environment by saving paper and declined the sheet.

Boris Johnson might get just away with his ‘confidence vote’ from members of parliament tonight. Dave Griffiths is definitely in trouble though as the members of his team tonight are definitely voting no confidence in their man after his poor showing today.

The only time Paul Robinson has ever hit the pin was when he wasn’t looking where he was going on the putting green and walked into it a few weeks ago. Today he had an outer body experience and played some terrific golf. He nearly holed his tee shot on the 15th and the flagstick kept it out. He did make a great two to add to the one he made on the 13th – excellent golf Paul, well done.

A gentle breeze meant the course was playing as easily as you could imagine however Conwy is never easy.

There were three teams from Prestbury playing today and John Owens team- the least wealthy of the three are lying in 3rd with 84 points alongside Dukinfields Neale Laurent and his team.

Dentons Gary Owen and his team lie in 2nd with 85 points but leading the way in the two-day event is Kevin Hart and his Davyhulme team who scored a tremendous 48 on the tough front nine before battling home in 40 points.

A big Monday night out in Llandudno has scuppered many a teams’ chances over the past few years and these lads know how to enjoy themselves…

Have a great night guys.

Maxitours at delightful Davyhulme

An early morning rain storm delayed the start at Davyhulme but once play was underway the golf course was enjoyed by all. The greens were superb and this golf course is a real pleasure to play.

‘I look forward to playing here all year!’ Announced Maxitours regular Martin Humphries ‘It is the most enjoyable course we play all year, great holes, always in great condition and a very easy walk as well.’

Unlucky Jim Lindsay is a lovely bloke but his team struggled all day and finished in last place. To sum it all up he hit his best shot of the day on the 12th hole only to see a crow pick it up and fly away to a nearby tree. The crow actually pecked at his two playing partners balls before deciding that Jim’s ball was the tastiest.

Scoring was excellent on the pure greens.

Likeable Simon Poucher(10) (known as ‘aqua man’ to his golfing friends after losing plenty of balls in the drink on a recent trip to Turkey) led his team into 4th place with a solid 86. The team finished strongly recording three birdie twos on the back nine short holes. Big Dave Carlile(11) was immense picking up seven shots for his team.

The home Davyhulme team of low handicappers Dave Blease(3), Karl Marginson(4), Luke Connor(5) and Dave Lowe (5) had a solid performance with 87 points to take 3rd place.

Second place and just narrowly missing out on victory with a card play off was Neale Laurent(12) John Harrop (6) Lee Merson (1) and Peter Hoctor(11). They dropped two shots on the 17th which proved to be very costly.

Winning on the back nine was Birchwoods’ vice-Captain Simon Wilkinson(6) Gerry Salmon (13) Pete Abbott (11) and John Fitzsimmons (5). They also dropped a shot on the 17th but scraped home with 45 points on their back nine.

Well played chaps great score.

Thanks to everyone for your support,

Tim
