Maxitours at Cracking Conwy
Superb sunshine, a challenging seaside breeze and one of the best links courses in the world made for an exceptional days golf at Conwy today.

The report is brief as today’s event was run by the incredibly attractive Karen Gallagher.

I decided to play in the Cheshire and North Wales Open at Northrop Hall and after a performance to rival the England football team I am struggling to contain my excitement after discovering I have just won a cheque for £10 after finishing in a tie for 15th place.

In today’s event scoring reflected the tough but enjoyable conditions and Roy Ainsworths team battled into 5th with 78 points.
Dave Stanhopes team continued there good form with 4th place with 79 points.
One handicapper Leigh Smart is a class act and he enjoyed the test -leading his team into 3rd with 79 points.
Peter Atherton’s men were delighted to score 80 points to take 2nd.

The Ex Manchester United duo of Frank Stapleton(13) and Arthur Albiston(8) took a rest from commentating on the Euros and they had their first win of the Summer with 83 points playing alongside big Dave Wilson(8) and Kevin Hawkins(8).- Well played chaps, great win!

Iain Bartholomew got married on Saturday and despite looking slightly exhausted his celebrations continued as he won nearest the pin on the 2nd- Congratulations!

Thanks to everyone who played today and to Maxitours player Dan Percival for sponsoring the event- he is really switched on and could help your business:

Maxitours at Worsley

Historic Worsley Golf Course is always a popular venue and over 100 Maxitours players enjoyed this Manchester gem. The course was in superb condition and the excellent weather ensured a great day was enjoyed by all. The greens were carpet -like and there was a very steady string of compliments throughout the day as players finished their round.
‘Please pass on our thanks to the green staff- that was excellent’ said knowledgeable Phil Smeathers.

Colin Roberts was first out and his team were around in just over 3 and a half hours. I told him they must have played well to get round so quickly.
‘We found our balls quicker than usual this week!’ honest team mate Jeff Andrews replied.

England are drawn to play Iceland on Monday night in the last sixteen of the Euros. Burger eating Dave Antrobus is well travelled but he has never been to Iceland. I thought this may be perhaps because Iceland only has 60 golf courses for golf mad Dave to play. It was later pointed out to me that Iceland is the only country in Europe that doesn’t have a McDonalds restaurant .

Ryan Giggs lives in a huge house bordering the wonderful Worsley course. He took a well earned break from a yoga workout this morning and looked out of his bedroom window just in time to watch Jim Kenyon make an impressive birdie three on the tricky 5th.

A few Maxitours players voted in the referendum before arriving at Worsley ‘you may as well look at your belly button to decide whether you are and inny or an outy’ was the conclusion of intelligent businessman Paul Denny.

Paul Sherlock was thinking about voting to stay IN unfortunately his ball was definitely OUT as the likeable Didsbury man hooked one over the trees on the 7th.

In today’s event the conditions were ideal for scoring but this excellent James Braid design got the better of many players. A very respectable score of just 84 points was surprisingly good enough to take the spoils.

Dave Stanhope(10), Giles Terry(15), Phil Smeathers (6)and Dave Antrobus (10)normally feature at the wrong end of the leaderboard. For some reason things have improved in the last couple of weeks and the High Legh/ Knutsford men have found a little bit of team spirit as they finished in an impressive 3rd place.

Wilmslows Jim Caldwell(10) had his best result of the season as he teamed up with Marriots Andrew Aherne(18), Bob Picthal(17)l and Styal’s Simon Maxwell(13). Jim is around the 70 year old mark but is as fit as a fiddle and was in fine form especially on the front nine. Simon is my brother but when I spent my childhood learning to play golf he was busy trainspotting at Crewe station. Despite having a swing quicker than an inter city 125 express he was on the right track today. Well played bro!

Winning today’s event was Castle Hawks Archie Tahir(5) Fizz Ahmed(8) Mo Rafiq(12) and Tal Mahmood(6). The likeable lads have played all season with very little success but today they were delighted and a little surprised to win with just 84 points. ‘We had a great day and absolutely love this golf course’ said team Captain and top man Archie. Well played chaps!

Thanks to all who played today, I hope you had a great day on the links, Tim.

Maxitours at Fantastic Fixby

Maxitours had its annual visit to what many players consider to be Yorkshires finest venue -Fixby.

The course was a prepared to an exceptionally high level and looked a real picture with the Rhododendrons in full bloom . Many thanks to Alex the highly respected Head Professional and all her Fixby staff for making us feel so welcome. Thanks to the greens staff for all their hard work throughout the day.

John Pratt turned up at Huddersfield looking a little bit apprehensive after his rock bottom finish last week. ‘Wow, This looks really nice- is it a good course?’ I told him it was absolutely superb but warned him that is was really tough test of golf.
‘When are we playing an easy course? he enquired.

Richard Palmer is a relatively successful Maxitours player but most weeks he lets himself down with his golfing attire. Today he looked pleased with himself as he had a new and very expensive Under armour skin to keep warm . Unfortunately he was wearing it not only inside out but also back to front.

With thunder and lightning hitting Manchester and Cheshire all afternoon the weather was relatively kind to us in sunny Yorkshire. There was a 50 minute heavy downpour at two o’clock but the rest of the day was idyllic! The scoring was once gain very close and the season low score of just 42 points was good enough to win.

Graham Pike(12) was in the prizes on Saturday when he finished 4th in the worst dressed golfer of the year at Knutsford Golf Club. He continued his prize winning streak today teaming up with Nigel Davenport(4) to take 7th spot with 39 points. Mancunian nice guys Ray Massey(5) and Steve Tyrell (15) were delighted with 6th place and Richard Brewster (10)and Richard Walmsley(3) marked their Maxitours debuts with 5th place all on 39 points.

Maxitour regulars Brian Hopkins(5) and Mark Taylor(12) both work very hard and they ask for late start times each week. The lovely Shrigley members were rewarded with a rain free afternoon and made the most of the conditions to finish in fourth place with a solid 40 points.
Joe Kirwan(5) and Mike Spencer(12) both had their handicaps reduced after playing well in Bramall’s Captains day this Saturday. Their good form continued as they finished in 3rd place also on 40 points.

Hazel Grove’s Dan Moss(7) and Chris Heyes(5) really enjoyed the course and Chris made a wonderful birdie on the 18th to secure 2nd place with 41 points.

Steve Parle(12) and Gary Parle(15) have played Maxitours for the past five years and were delighted to win a pair of socks in 2012. Everything clicked for the jovial brothers as they recorded the best result of their careers in Yorkshire this afternoon. Gary has spent plenty on lessons with top PGA coach Adrian Fryer and he recorded 5 straight pars from the 2nd to 6th holes. Steve was in a state of shock after his win and was seen wandering around the course for two hours searching for his car keys which were tucked safely in his golf bag. Well played chaps- great performance on a top course!

Thanks for everyone for your support- I am sure you had a fulfilling day rather than watching England struggle against the Welsh!
Yours in golf, Tim
