pleasington closed- event now at Knutsford

Dear Maxitours player,
I am sorry but Pleasington is( incredibly) underwater this morning!
They have had non stop rain overnight and the greens are absolutely saturated.

I have walked on the 18th green and it is unplayable and won’t dry for a few hours .

The event has moved to Knutsford so please let me know if you wish to play, start times will remain the same. Many thanks,
Tim

SPACES FOR TEAMS OF 4 at MAGICAL MERE for GALVIN GREEN MASTERS on Monday 1st August

Many thanks to PGA Pro Matt Turnock for running my golf day whilst I am on a family holiday in Portugal. I hope everyone had a great day.

Report

Dunham Forest – 29th July 2016 – Competition Report
A big thank you Matt for running my event today.

Matt’s report as follows:

Thanks to the ever generous Colin Roberts this morning who kindly bought me a much needed caffeine burst to wake me up after my 5.15am wake up alarm.
The morning players were unfortunately not blessed with the best of the weather with some very heavy drizzle and some stop start showers. The forecast was for it to clear from noon but it was nearer 2.00pm before the sun finally began to show itself.
Despite the weather and one very heavy downpour at about 1.00pm the field battled on. From some of the early starters coming in with very creditable scores of 84 points were the teams led by Jim Caldwell and Simon Poucher who were then joined later by Brian Greenbanks men.
As the afternoon progressed the scoring became slightly easier and coming in with 86’s were the teams led by Lewis Marland and Leigh Smart but out in front with a magnificent 89 points were the team of Chris Adams, Paul Allen, Steve Hall and Mike Clewley who could even afford a dropped point on the last to win by 3 clear points.
The catering was superb with some fantastic chef’s specials being served throughout the day by the very helpful and friendly Dunham staff and many stayed post round for a drink and a bite to eat.
Everyone was very impressed the condition of the course with lots of “really enjoyed that” and “great course” comments coming in all day so congratulations to the green keeping staff on a difficult day.

Maxitours at high quality Hopwood

A stunningly beautiful summers day greeted the Maxitours competitors at sunny Middleton today.

As you drive into the lovely Golf Club there is a huge sign announcing that Hopwood is Manchester’s premier Golfing venue and absolutely no one was arguing against that claim after they played this classic parkland masterpiece.

‘That was awesome’ said Silkstone’s Rob Platt ‘what a course! ‘
‘Wow, what an excellent track’ said Ashton on Mersey star Ian Thompson.

The food was terrific and the O’Connor family who run both the Pro shop and the Secretary’s office were terrific to deal with. The only criticism of the day came from salad dodger Dave Antrobus. He was shocked to see some lettuce and a tomato on his plate next to his bacon butty. ‘What a waste of time, I’d prefer another rasher any day’ he complained.

As all my Maxitours players were out on the course by 2.30pm I enjoyed a quiet half hour watching a talented Japanese golfer by the name of Khoki Idoki lead the British Seniors Open at Carnoustie. As the first cards came back in it looked like Richard Palmer and John Farnsworth had been doing the Oki Koki rather than playing golf as they could only manage a paltry 28 points to finish in last place.

I am no fashion expert but I do know dark colours can make you look slimmer. Smartly dressed Roger Percival was picking up a shirt for his portly pal Pete Atherton after they had a high finish two weeks ago. ‘What colour does he want?’ I asked Roger ‘ I’m not sure- but the darker the better’ came the response.

‘The buggy was great thank you’ said polite Trevor Foster to respected Hopwood pro Brian Connor after his round. ‘Any chance I can hire a partner next time I play here? My mate Frank Wade was hopeless.’

In today’s event conditions were absolutely perfect for golf. The recent dry weather meant that the ball was running well and the superb greens led to the best scoring of the season.

Congratulations to my 75 year old father-in-law Rob Weston and his friend Trevor Webb. They had the second best front nine of the day with an excellent 24 points. In order to maintain a happy, functional family life we won’t mention their back nine.

Brookdale’s Gareth Winston((10) and Matt Sayers(2) finished 4th with a 44 point haul and Stuart Coupe(11) and Mark Robinson(10) from Shaw Hill were delighted with a season best 45 points to take 3rd spot

Clitheroes Mark Jones(14) and Paul Nightingale(7) were singing with joy after 46 points earned them second place.

Respected Sale Captain Dave Moore(15) was Head of HR at the BBC in Manchester. He recruited well today as he teamed up with ex newspaper photographer Dale Wallace(11) to record 47 points. Dale was focussing on his golf today but it was Dave Moore who did the most damage. They won a pair of Fj shoes each. ‘Just give Dale a single shoe- it’s all he deserves’ said Moore giving me a friendly wink.

Well played chaps great score.
Thanks to everyone for playing today.
Yours in Golf, Tim

Maxitours at Delicious Davenport

Davenport is a great test of golf and is also really enjoyable to play. I had numerous comments from players complimenting the course layout and the excellent greens. Many players cited Davenport as their favourite venue. Thanks to all the greens staff for their work. The catering was first class and Frazer Weston must be rated as one of the top stewards in the North. Pro Tony Stevens also does a brilliant job helping to manage this lovely Club.

The course drains exceptionally well as it is built on tin mines and any recent heavy rainfalls had disappeared without trace.

Unlucky Dale Beaghan is a great bloke but you may not of heard of him as he isn’t mentioned too often in the winner’s circle.
He thought his fortunes had changed when he hit one of the best shots of his life on the 3rd hole and was delighted to see that he was easily nearest the pin. Excited Dale took 5 minutes to find a pen and was shaking with joy as he carefully wrote his name on the marker and then proudly put the marker back in the green. As he strutted off the green Andy Jackson in the match behind teed off and hit his ball straight in the hole.

Golf mad Mike Dudley was delighted to become a grandfather two days ago. He was delighted because his daughter was due next week so he wasn’t allowed to go to watch the Open at Troon. Now he has been given a pass. Congratulations Mike.

Sam Leach is struggling to find some form and before play he was debating whether to pull out of the medal at his home club at the weekend. ‘I think I’m going fishing instead if things don’t improve’ said the likeable Lymm man. His fortunes turned around today and an excellent 40 points was good enough to let Sam’s maggotts live for another day.

In today’s event scoring was steady throughout the day and nobody ripped the course to pieces.

Ex Lancashire champion Trevor Foster(scr) showed his class and birdied the last hole to secure 10th place.

Gary Garner(7) and Ray Ward(15) had their best finish for over a year as 42 points was good enough for 7th.

Prestbury members Chris Adams(13) and Steve Hall(18) did their club proud as they recorded 43 points for 5th place and this included a dreaded ‘blob’ on the 11th hole. Ringway’s David Smith(8) and Bill Melia(19) were late starters and they also scored an impressive 43 points.

The first three places scored 44 points and they were all incredibly out in 24 and back in 20 points so it was all decided on a back six hole card play off.

Wychwood Parks Richard Williamson(12) and Dave Goodwin(11) played terrific golf on the front nine. Wealthy builder Williamson started thinking about his speech and collapsed a little on the closing holes failing to score on the easy 13th and picking up just 1 point on the 16th and 18th holes as they came home with 20 points.

Hazel Groves Rick Gajewski(15) and Marples Paul Bray(8) also scored well on the opening holes and Riks birdie on the tough 9th was the highlight of their round.

To say that Knutsford’s talented David Kelly(12) looked slightly disappointed when he was drawn to play with John Atkin(20) first thing this morning when the balls were thrown up would be a slight understatement. After a dodgy first hole David was flabbergasted to witness his partner pick up three points on the 2nd and 3rd holes quickly. This stunning start was followed by a four point birdie on the 5th. John also made superb pars on the 16th and 18th to secure victory by virtue of their better last six holes. Very well played chaps -especially John.

Thanks to all who played today. I am off to watch Germany win another trophy. Yours in golf, Tim
