Maxitours at Classy Caldy
Caldy on the Wirral was the stunning venue for today’s Maxitours event. The hospitality throughout the day and presentation of the golf course was first class, many hanks to everyone at this great club.

With very mild air temperatures, plenty of snowdrops scattered around the course and John Stubbs looking for his ball in the young daffodils there was a real feeling that Spring was just around the corner.

Mark Williams had not been to Caldy before and he was impressed by the size of the houses as he drove to the course. ‘I kept thinking this must be the clubhouse every time I turned a corner and saw another mansion!’ said the Mottram man.

It was great to see Premiership referee Mike Dean make another Maxitours appearance today. Most golfers put their scorecard in their back pocket but Mike always uses his top pocket, apparently it is easier for him to pull out the card whenever he feels like it….

In today’s event I have never heard so many worried golfers asking ‘did we come last?’ after they finished their round . Anthony Grimley’s men took that particular honour today with a hard fought 63 points.

Fireman Phil Dermott has played some great golf in recent weeks however today he just missed out on the prizes. Apparently they have had a busy few days in the station after a light bulb went out and it took four of the firemen several hours to sort things out. It took so long because one of them changed the bulb but the other three had to cut the roof off.

Golf will be back in the Olympics after a 108 year absence it has almost been that long since Richard Williamson(11) won a prize. He was delighted to help his team of top guys Dave Goodwin(9), Pete Keena(11) and Paul Woodbine(7) into 4th place with 81 points.

Cheadle Golf Club star Mick Fenton(8) played with his son Tom(8), Tony Stiles(12) and likeable milkman Don Milligan(13). They played really well to finish in 3rd place. Milligan has a ‘crateful’ of shots and really ‘delivered the goods’ when he collected 4 points for the team on the long 5th hole. Unfortunately after a poor tee shot on the 6th he saw his ball ‘floating’ down the river Dee.

Tony Kenny(5), Kenneth Chinn(17), Peter Hampson(11) and Harry Lopez(9) were delighted to finish in a career best 2nd place. Hampson was thestar of the team and two closing pars into the Irish sea breeze secured a high finish.

Steve McDermotts (12)big hitting team enjoyed the longer holes and they all contributed well. Two handicapper Liam Rex(2) played the front nine under par and the charismatic McDermott once again did his fair share of damage. Mark Davin(3) and Simon Priest(6) also played some lovely golf. Despite dropping a shot on a jittery final hole the Ashton men took first prize by a single shot. Well played chaps!

Many thanks for playing today, despite the dodgy forecast all 100 players turned up and were rewarded with a rain free day (except for a small refreshing 20 minute shower!).

Thanks for your support, Yours in Golf, Tim.

The best ever Summer Schedule 2015

Dear Golfer,

Many thanks for your continued support of Maxitours this year. I really hope you have enjoyed your golf as much as I have enjoyed running the events for you.

Summer is just around the corner and in addition to the best courses in Cheshire I have secured two terrific new venues for the Tour – Fixby and Clitheroe Golf Clubs. These are two tremendous championship golf courses which are also very enjoyable to play and will be great additions to the tour.

Thank you for your superb etiquette, quick pace of play and most importantly playing your golf in the true spirit of the game which is so important to the success of the tour. I really know all my players and I really feel that I have a special tour. I often get remarks from Secretaries and Stewards on what a nice group of golfers we have.

I am delighted to announce that for the Maxitours 2015 I have not increased any entry fees and I will continue to try and provide the best golf, on the best courses, at the best prices.

Good luck this coming season,
Yours in Golf,
Tim.

Maxitours at Sandiway

Spring definitely felt just around the corner as very pleasant golfing conditions were enjoyed by today’s full field at Sandiway Golf Club. The players experienced barely a breath of wind and they all enjoyed the firm fairways and lovely putting surfaces .

‘The greens were great and the tees were superb. The bunkers were so good even I could get out of them!’ reported Geoff Andrews.

Top agent Alan Frazer manages several superb singers and other performing artists. Today he showed us that he can also do a turn and he provided the entertainment when he coolly rolled in a forty foot putt across the 18th green and did a little jig of delight in front of the clubhouse.

Steve Johnson made his partners smile when he found yet another unplayable lie, this time behind a well placed bush. ‘ If I played golf in the Goby desert my ball would end up behind a bloody tree’ said the exasperated Crewe man.

In today’s event many players felt that the ideal golfing conditions would lead to some great scoring but superbly designed Sandiway is one of the tougher layouts on the Maxitours circuit and once again nobody made a fool of this brilliant course.

The Silver haired duo of John Rigby and Geoff Andrews both hit the ball left to right. Their favourite book is ‘Fifty fades of Grey’. Today they controlled their ball flight really well and were both surprised and delighted to finish in 5th position with 41 points.

Tytherington nice guys Martin Firth and Andy Taylor have both played well this Summer to reduce their handicaps and they played well once again today to score 41 points and take 4th place.

Highly rated Peter Atherton and Martin France started their round in a sluggish manner however they were luckier than Louis Van Gaal and a strong finish from the duo saw them get more than they deserved as they moved into 3rd place.

Paul Crisp is currently living on a lovely canal barge in Worsley. He has struggled for form over the past few months but has just started to play some superb golf. His return to form coincided with the cold spell. The canal has frozen so I’m not feeling seasick anymore’ said the likeable Mancunian. Today he teamed up with Steve McDermott and they both played well to score 42 points and win the back nine card play off.

First place went to the ever present Richard Blackwell and Andy Hamlett. Well spoken Blackwell plays plenty of golf and he played solid golf all day. Two excellent late birdies from Hamlett saw them seal their first wins on the Winter Tour. Well played chaps!

Maxitours at ‘Rink’way

Ringway Golf Club was the lovely setting for today’s Maxitours event. Cold ground conditions meant that the course was a little firm for a few holes however rather like my stomach muscles, things soon really softened up. Attractive Club Secretary Fiona made us feel very welcome and the caterers were also on top form.

The green keepers presented a really terrific track for us to play on and one of the lower handicap four balls were all convinced Ringway has by far the finest inland winter greens in the county. ‘How do the greens staff do it?’ said a very impressed Paul Dalby. (3)
‘Those greens were tremendous’ said nineteen handicapper Ray Jones ‘Ive knocked in some wonderful putts, it’s just a real shame it takes me so long to get there!’

I do try very hard to recollect people’s names. Chris Lee turned up with his regular partner who is a really nice bloke but I can never remember his name. ‘I’m Tony Davenport and I’ve played over half a dozen times’ said the disappointed Mellor man when I had to ask him who he was. ‘ I must be really memorable’ he added. Unfortunately Tony once again played some average golf and it is quite likely that he will go unrecognised next week.

Pete Daniels from Leigh is not related in any way at all to the famous magician, Paul. He really struggled to make his ball disappear into the hole today. Pete did manage to make a few rabbits vanish after some wayward driving on the 11th hole.

In today’s event the firm fairways and greens made the par fours all reachable for some of the older members of the tour and the top three team prizes were mainly filled by ‘more mature players’.

Colin Roberts(19) plays every week with his good pals John Rigby(14), Dave Marchant(15) and Bob Sinclair(14). The Alsager team started slowly but their aching joints soon warmed up and a strong back nine saw the popular quartet finish in a season best third place.

Mick Mahon(22) also plays each week also with his good mates -Frank Hindle(14), Richard Palmer (12)and John Farnworth(24). Mick’s team has won twice in recent years , unfortunately he was away on holiday on both occasions much to the amusement of his friends . Today Mick showed them that they can win even when he is playing and two closing pars on the tough 11th and 12th holes showed some real class from the warm hearted, horse owning, Lancastrian.

Seventy seven year old Neville Dennis(18) from Swinton Park played alongside Alan Leigh(16), Frank Massey(13) and Swinton Captain, the Irishman, Jimmy ‘five daughters’ O’Reilly(10). They thought they had blown it with just three points on their closing hole but Neville’s four 3 point holes saw them scrape home on the back nine. Well played chaps!

Four players recorded two’s during today’s event, big spending Alan Pengelly however was the only player to enter the sweep. He knocked in a 40 foot putt on the 16th hole to win six dozen balls.
Thanks to all players for your support today. I really hope you had a great day on the links.
