Results from cracking Conwy

This is golf at its VERY BEST.

The Conwy links golf course was a Golden yellow this morning sitting below clear blue skies. A gentle sea breeze kept players cool and provided a true test of links summer golf.

The firm fairways and fast sloping greens require excellent spin control.

‘I hope you’ve really cleaned your grooves today Ashley’ I advised experienced Bramhall single figure player Ashley Elliott.

‘He always walks like that’ Explained Mike Lamb.

Ed Wilkinson was taking his golf very seriously. He is so professional he downgraded to three pints of Carling before his round, deciding to hit the San Miguel later tonight instead so his performance wouldn’t be affected. Amazing dedication Ed- well done.

There were a couple of hotel related issues today. John Dolan hasn’t heard of trip advisor and is staying in ‘a sticky carpet hotel.’ He says it smells like three week old KFC chicken but it’s cheap. He is thinking of treating his wife to a week there this summer.

Can someone please take Lee Tilley back to England. He was in the Conwy clubhouse asking a table of members in his poshest Saddleworth accent ‘My Secretary booked us in the Gwesty Hotel tonight- do you know where abouts it is?’

They explained that Gwesty is welsh for hotel and there were three thousand of them in Llandudno.

Everyone enjoyed the course and scoring was excellent. Should be a very exciting day tomorrow!

Colin Roberts Alsager team and Dave Rhodes Saddleworth team are sharing first place on 86 points.

Jim Clarkes team looking ominous on 85 points and Bob Eastwoods Bramhall team are delighted to be in 4th with 83 points.

Maxitours at five star Vale Royal

The Vale Royal Golf course looked incredible this morning, the beautiful lakes and ponds were teaming with wildlife and the course was a real picture. This is one very special golf course and it’s a real privilege to play here.

The greens were of the highest quality once again and I was showered with terrific comments throughout the day.

‘That was SO good. The greens were lovely.’ Reported Russell Sollitt.
‘A gorgeous golf course and very, very enjoyable to play.’ Noted Pat O’Dowd.

Manager Ian Embury does a great job behind the scenes and the magnificent Clubhouse and catering is always enjoyed by my players.
Everton fan and Bar manager Dave fell over and broke his nose on Sunday after Everton scored their winner. His hospitality was still top of the league throughout today with his great service and cheerful swollen face.

Veteran golfer Tony Leigh was heavily criticized last week for being too old to wear his terrible white golf outfit to a Maxitours event. He was wearing black pants and a plain black lambswool sweater today in an effort to avoid any more abuse. It was the hottest day of the year and he nearly collapsed on the back nine from heat exhaustion.

Bad Golfers from Lymm secured two of the first three spots. Phil Pegun(25), Phil Young(11), Steve Mooney(15) and Andy Timms (10)recorded a super 89 points. Pegun is a lovely bloke and has been playing for just two years. He had his first ever two today on the tenth hole. Not his first ever two on that particular hole, not his first ever two at Vale Royal, not even his first Maxitours two, not even his first competitive two. His first two! EVER!

Davyhulmes Paul Yearsley(7), Joe Mann(13), Mark Foley(7) and Kev Hart(11) took second place. The team was going well and Kev had a shot on the last. Paul gave him some very sound advice.
‘Whatever you do -don’t hit it out of bounds’.
The guaranteed three off the tee saw the team drop a shot.

Sam Leach and his team normally play golf like Woods. Victoria Woods.
They have the worst average score of any team in the history of Maxitours and are delighted most weeks not to finish last. They won a cap three years ago and did an open top parade around Lymm to celebrate. Well today ladies and gentlemen was their day and they won with an amazing 97 points! Sixteen handicapper Chris Walley holed his 3rd shot for an eagle on the second and had four more birdies on his card. Sam Leach was unusually solid, Jim Hodges recorded two birdies of his own and even Jonny Barton managed a birdie on the 11th. Well played guys I am delighted for you. Brilliant team.

These guys are normally the ones you see in the clubhouse munching nuts and wondering how anyone can score 97 points.
Every dog has his day.

Thanks everyone for your 100% attendance again. Class.

Tim.

Maxitours at excellent Ringway

Ringway was superb today. As I put the nearest the pin markers out first thing this morning Matt the highly regarded new head greenkeeper was working hard changing the pins and preparing the course. There were only positive comments throughout the day as players praised the greens, fairways and the half way house barbeque.
Ringway is back to as good as it has ever been.
Thanks also to Manager Tracy and her first-class team for their faultless hospitality and professionalism.

The day started well with Rick Shaw tickling the ivories on the grand piano in the newly refurbished club house. He was very entertaining and has wonderful rhythm, talent and real magic in those fingers. Unfortunately, a different bloke teed off on the first tee as he tugged the ball into the deep Ringway rough.

Tony Leighs team mates thought he had got his sports mixed up when he arrived wearing a white pair of pants, a white top and a white sweater. He assured them that this was his latest trendy golf outfit. The list of banned Maxitours golf items (which includes castle tees, iron headcovers and chipmaster wedges) has just added a new category -men over sixty wearing white pants.

In todays event Jim Caldwell and his team of John Sherington, Peter Griggs and Simon Woolley was third out in the morning sunshine and they set the pace with an excellent 87 points.
Retired Copper Neale Laurent came close with an 85 point haul.

Jeremy Waterhouse and his team also played well today. He loves visiting Ringway as there are pictures of his grandfather dotted around the clubhouse. He played off scratch for 25 years and there is even a picture of him with the great South African Open winner Bobby Locke playing in a Ringway exhibition match. Hole 14 is actually called ‘Waterhouse’ in a tribute to the great man. Unfortunately, Jeremy nearly lost his ball on the family hole but team mate Graham Robinson picked up three points as the team moved into a best of the season 4th position.
It was Mick Mahon(21), Richard Palmer(9), Andy Faulkner(14) and John Farnsworth(20) who recorded 87 points and won the back nine card play off by the narrowest of margins. Mahon receives two shots on the two toughest Ringway holes and he knocked in solid putts to secure 8 points for his team.
Well played chaps very popular winners indeed.

Thanks for your 100% attendance today.

MAXITOURS AT “BRILLIANT” BOLTON OLD LINKS

Sorry for the results delay-admin issues.
Thanks to Matt Turnock for running the event here is his report:

A magnificent day for the Maxitours players with a light breeze and sunny spells.
For many this was their first time playing the historic course designed by Alister Mackenzie with his trade mark sloping greens.
One of the trickiest holes of the day was the par 3 17th playing downhill and downwind seeing only a handful of players holding the green. “The only way my ball was staying on the green was if it had grappling hooks” came one comment.
The tricky greens proved to also conspire to a low number of two’s but Gareth Gwilliam decided one way to take this out of the equation was to simply hole out with his second shot on the par 4 1st for an eagle for one of his two 2’s. Well played Gareth !!!!
This hot start along with the rest of Gareth’s team gelling well on the outward 9 produced a stonking 50 points which proved decisive in them taking the spoils eventually recoding an impressive 88 points.
Many players were complimentary of the course condition and said they would definitely come back as they enjoyed it so much so great credit to the green keeping staff for their hard work.
Players were treated to excellent food offerings by the catering staff that were both friendly and efficient in getting it out quickly considering the number of players ordering so well done to them.

Today’s results were:

Maxitours at Bramall Park

What a great day!
Well over 100 very happy golfers enjoyed playing this lovely golf course. Sunny skies, a tip top golf course, brilliant greens and even a friendly starter made this a day to remember for Maxitours players.

A terrific pro shop and first-class catering ensure all bases are covered at this classy Cheshire venue.
Thanks to everyone for your hospitality throughout the day.

One of the biggest debates in golf is which of the Bramhall courses is the best and after an unofficial survey today the general consensus was that they are two wonderful courses with absolutely nothing to separate them. Always nice to sit on the fence.

Third place went to Bramhall’s plane spotter Rob Kenyon, Steve Merricks, Hugh Bilby and Gav Spencer with 85 points. Merricks made an excellent birdie on the last to make his 5 pints of beer taste a little better in the bar after play.

Tony Welburn(6) has just retired as the titliest rep. For many years he was one of the most important people in my life as he could get me pro’s own use rate on a set of golf clubs if he liked you. He is now a nobody but is making a name for himself on Maxitours after helping his team into 2nd place after a very strong four closing holes. Paul Price(12), Lee Roberts(8) and Matt Cheffins(7) completed the team.

Birchwoods John Lynsky said the last time he played here was on Prince Charles and Lady Di’s wedding day. He nearly won that day and he went one better and took first place today with 86 points. Lynsky is well into his eighties but is sharp as a button and was delighted with the result. Simon Wilkinson(5), Barry Wilson(11) and Nick Steele(18). Well played chaps – keep it up.
Thanks to everyone for your 100% attendance today. Amazing.
