Dear Maxitours players,

Here is Thursdays start sheet at Ringway.
As usual play is permitted from fairway using mats or balls can be moved and played from the first cut.
There are a few wet spots on the course but it is holding up well and the greens are excellent.

The short 8th hole is out of play due to path work.
Bacon barms and coffee will be available for just £5 but Ringway caterers are now cashless.
Thanks
Tim

Fabulous Fairhaven results

*Room at super Mottram Hall next Thursday*

Maxitours at Fabulous Fairhaven

Perfect links conditions greeted Maxitours players at Fairhaven today. A warm but testing sea breeze and a wonderfully presented golf course ensured a fantastic day was had by all.

The sun shone all afternoon apart from a refreshing twenty-minute shower as people were playing their closing holes late in the day.
The greens were magnificent. Fairhaven is now recognized as one of the finest Championship courses in the North of England and everyone agreed that it was well worth the journey up the M6 this morning.
The clubhouse has also been refurbished and the staff were all brilliant.

The clubhouse also has tremendous view over the course and a few members always spend the afternoon watching the golfers. I loved listening to the comments:
‘He’s got a funny swing.’
‘He’ll be lucky to find it in that bush.’
‘He must practice under a coffee table.’

Ian Appleton was a Maxitours regular but now lives in the Spanish sunshine. Whenever I see him he has a big smile on his face and tells me how good the weather is in Spain. Try and avoid him.
He comes back every Christmas as he claims to play the trombone to a very high standard and plays in orchestras at various festive shows throughout the North West. I’m not too sure. There was an advert for a local pantomime in Knutsford and the ugly sister definitely reminded me of someone.

You might have wall to wall sunshine but they don’t have traditional links courses like this in Spain Ian.

In today’s event scoring was excellent due to the forward tees, pure putting surfaces and lots of talented players.

Hazel Grove solicitor Simon Ashton, Adrian Waring, Dan Moss and Phil Raines took 3rd with 85 points.

Carden Park’s Paul Fell, retired head master Nigel Ashton, Colin Bryan and Mike Lowe took 2nd place after an excellent 87 points.

Winning today was Tony Jennison(3), Richard Blackwell(12), John Hilton(15) and Gary Smith(10). John Hilton has struggled with his game recently and his handicap is about the only thing keeping up with inflation but he was back to his best today. They scored an excellent 89 points after scoring heavily on the tricky par three holes. Well played chaps.

Thanks to everyone for your support, superb.

fantastic Formby Hall results

Maxitours at fabulous Formby Hall

The Winter/Spring tour enjoyed wonderful golfing weather at Formby Hall today. Superb greens, gentle sea breeze, an incredibly dry course and clear blue skies were the reward for players who travelled to Merseyside.

The course was terrific and really well drained considering the amount of rain we have had in recent weeks.

Its always interesting to come to the Formby Hall hotel and spa venue near Liverpool. I sit in the main corridor and watch a few residents walking past. There are lots of pumped-up lips and false tans knocking about throughout the day. And that was only Ian Kings team.

Jim Caldwell and Bob Eastwoods team both scored 85 points. Bobs team was on fire with a wonderful 47 points on the front nine, their slow finish saw Jim’s team winning the card play-off.

Ex Copper Neale Laurent, Martyn Schofield, Jack Schofield and John Harrop took 4th with 86 points. Another retired copper on a huge pension took 3rd place. Dave Blood from Romiley and his good pals Jimmy Cox, Ian Smith and Mike Grainger had a terrific back nine picking up 8 points on the long 14th to take 2nd on 87 points

Sandiways Gary Neiles and his team of Russell Sollitt, John Longworth and Alan Giles scored 88 points. They picked up seven points on the lovely 17th hole to elevate themselves into 2nd.

Winning today was the softly spoken Davyhulme team of Kev Hart(11), Paul Yearsley(9), Sam Garnett(1) and Alan Vaughan(9). Sam is a class player and has found some good form recently. He shot six under to help his Maxitours ever present team to a first win for nearly a year. Well played chaps. Great golf.

Thanks to everyone for your support. Tim
