The Final XENTUM Summer order of Merit

Room at Mottram Hall on Thursday November 17th

The final summer 2022 Xentum Order of Merit

Dear Maxitours players,

Here is the final summer Xentum.co.uk order of merit.

Congratulations to Wrexham’s Mike Lowe on topping the table this year. Mike is a lovely softly spoken man who plays each week and will be a very popular winner.

The Order of merit was closely fought with 12 points awarded for a team victory and 10 points for a second place and so on. Just 12 points separated the first 11 players so it was all to play for last week and despite not featuring consistent Mike managed to secure the title.

Retired head master Nigel Ashton from Carden Park and Brookdale’s Gary Smith shared second place.

Xentum are Knutsford based high quality financial advisors who operate with great integrity. I have no hesitation recommending them. Please check them out by clicking the link.

Maxitours at Amazing Astbury

Maxitours at amazing Astbury

Astbury Golf Club looks set to be a firm Maxitours favourite after so many players expressed their pleasure visiting this superb Cheshire course for the very first time. Even likeable Saddleworth millionaire Dave Sarsfield was in a good mood after his match:

‘I loved that course!’ He declared. ‘I can’t wait to play it again.’

For late October the course was excellent. Three separate players told me that the bunkers filled with stunning white sand were the finest they had ever seen on any inland golf course.

The catering staff and the food were also brilliant. The whole Club has a very nice feeling about it and seems like a very happy place to play your golf. Next years’ event is already booked.

It was lovely to get a text from Jim Caldwell: ‘Thanks for today Tim, we really enjoyed Astbury. Excellent course and the staff were very pleasant and served great food’.

Lee Tilley is a very successful businessman. I’m not sure how. I told him that I went in the ballot for a round at St Andrews when I visited Scotland last week but I wasn’t successful.

‘That ballot is a bit of a lottery.’ He informed me. Thanks for that information Lee. Brilliant.

The back nine holes were the Achilles heel for many teams. Martin Williams and his men were set for a record Maxitours total after 48 points on the front nine before Mike Kulik reminded his team how well they were doing. Fatal mistake. The team limped home in 32 points for a mid table finish.

Jim Clarkes team were also flying on their front nine as they went out in 46 points before wobbling like an MFI wardrobe and coming home in 35 points.

Graham Pike struggled to get the ball in the hole with his putter today, he also struggled to get out of the clubhouse, spending a couple of minutes pushing and shoving the door and looking for release button before a little old lady member gently pulled the door open for him.

In the main event Ashton on Merseys Neil Edwards team scored 84 points to take 4th place.

Birchwoods Simon Wilkinson and his men finished 3rd on 85 points.

Antrobus Steward Dave Buckley(12) is on a sponsored diet but he ate up the first hole today to start his team off on the right foot with a birdie, they had 45 points on the front nine before hanging on well and returning in 41 on the tougher closing half to take 2nd. Dave Carter(4), Mike Yearsley(10) and Billy McAffey(12) were the other top performing team members.

Winning was the popular retired Colin Roberts and his veteran Alsager team who were inspired by the beautiful Autumnal leaves. They played some colourful golf to post a terrific score of 87 points early in the day. Dave Marchant(16), retired Doctor Andy Williamson(11) and Nigel Armitage(14) all contributed well. Congratulations guys.

Thank to everyone for your 100% attendance. Tim.

Maxitours from lovely Lymm !!!

A big thank you again to my PGA friend Matt Turnock for running today’s event and sending the report whilst I enjoyed a relaxing golfing break at Dornoch with my lovely wife Suzy.

The weather was excellent for the day and the course was beginning to look autumnal with the greenkeeping staff working hard to keep the leaves off the fairways. The greens were back to their very best.

Many thanks also to Lymm’s catering staff who sold a record number of bacon and sausage baps to the ravenous Maxitours players some of whom could give piranhas a run for their money.
A big thank you to Colin Roberts for his kind donation of the Gordon Banks signed picture (raised £215) towards funds for the three worthy charities today of The Christie, UNICEF and The MS Society.
We have raised in excess of £2200 which is terrific.- Thanks so much to everyone.

Maxitours at superb Stockport

Room at Lymm for the Charity day on Tuesday.
Maxitours at superb Stockport

Stockport was in stunning condition for todays Maxitours event. As a young assistant professional we always arranged a day out each year at Stockport as I loved the course, the reports from my players were so good today I must try and arrange a game very soon.

The catering continues to be the finest of any Club in Cheshire and Jackie and Rob were brilliant with my guys today. Thank you very much.

The greens were the fastest we had played on all year and this combined the strongest winds all season combined to provide a high quality tough test of golf.

Dave Needham turned up and asked me if he could play in today’s event with a new golf ball which has a tracking device in it, it also flashes and makes a bleep so it can’t possibly be lost.
‘Did you buy it on the internet?’ I asked
‘No I found it.’

Scoring was tight on this stunning course. The best scores were early in the day before the drying wind made the course play like the last day of the US Open.
Dukinfields’ Neale Laurent took 3rd place after a hard-fought card play-off but it was ‘Lucky’ Senior British ladies champion Cath Rawthore(scr) and her less talented Sale team that took 2nd place after a strong back six holes. Moby Rawthore(1), Neil Griffiths(11) and Steve Best(2) completed the quartet.

Winning today were the Hazel Grove Golf Club four of Lee Everett(10), Sam Everett(8), Mark Cookson(6) and Oliver Robinson(2). They used their local knowledge after travelling just a mile or so down the A6 to take first place with just 83 points. They were shocked and delighted to win with such a low score. Well played guys!
Thanks to everyone for your support, Tim

Maxitours at wonderful Reddish Vale

Room for 2 teams at terrific Stockport on Monday- let me know asap if you can play as these times will go!
Charity event at lovely Lymm Tuesday 25th October– all proceeds to charity £30 entry fee – course is excellent. Room for teams.

Maxitours at Reddish Vale

Reddish Vale is another Alaster Mackenzie master piece. Built in the shadows of industrial Stockport the course is a little wildlife hotspot with the beautiful river Tame meandering peacefully alongside the rolling fairways. It’s a great course.

The excellent drainage and greens which are consistently the best for miles around make this a tremendous Autumn venue. The green keeper should be very proud of himself.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.

Highly rated Club pro Andy Myers and Secretary Alan made us feel very welcome and are both brilliant chaps and a real pleasure to deal with.

The registration was in the Reddish Vale dart room today. The more childish members of the tour couldn’t resist having a quick throw.
‘I used to be a terrific darts player.’ Paul Fell informed me. ‘I nearly qualified for the embassy world finals.’
He threw three darts. The first missed the board, the second weakly fell on the floor and the third scored a four.
I know that the older I get the better I used to be at golf. What I didn’t know is that the same could be said for darts.

Sam Leach’s team were frustrated as they couldn’t knock a putt in all day but things looked brighter when housewife favorite Jonny Barton surprised everyone and hit a tremendous three wood to within a foot on the twelfth hole. The team were happily dividing up the two”s sweep balls before Jonny hit a putt that never even touched the hole and the deep gloom descended once more.

Scoring at the top was incredibly tight once again. The battle for 5th saw three teams on 81 points – all coming home in 44 points and all needing to be separated on the best last 6 holes.

Top retired big business lawyer Ed Pysden is extremely well organized and gives me a piece of paper listing his players and their current handicaps each week. Today he gave me his wife’s shopping list by mistake. It didn’t stop him playing great golf as his team finished 6th.
Don’t forget the milk, Ed.

Garry Smiths team took 5th place after picking up 6 points on the 16th and 17th holes.

Second to fourth place was also separated on a card play-off with Pete Ledgers team taking silver after their excellent back nine. Paul Fells team took 3rd and my gently snoring room mate Tom Roe and his team finished 4th. Everyone scored an excellent 83 points.

Late in the day Bramhall’s Rob Kenyon(13), Simon Burgess(15), Steve Rosier (13)and Dave Fidler(6) scored 84 points to win by one. The likeable quartet played here in an open on Monday and loved it so much they played again today. Their practice round paid off and they were absolutely delighted to take first place.

Thanks to everyone for your support.
Brilliant.

Teams are required for the charity day at Lymm on 25th October-it would be great if you could support this event.
