Maxitours at blustery Preston

Morning rain gave way to clear blue skies and a warm drying wind as Maxitours players tackled Preston Golf Club today.

‘That is right up there with the best courses we play all year.’ Reported Cheshire Senior player Austin McBride.

‘What a cracking golf course- I just love it here!’ Announced less talented but an equally great bloke- Bob Siddall.

The report is short because I’m calling in to see an elderly Aunt in Bolton on the way home before she falls asleep. She’s 95 but talks more sense than me.

The course won the day with a joint season low 79 points taking first place.

A Hale team won at North Wales last week but normal service was resumed with Martin Oldfield and his team taking last place.

The Turton quartet of Gary Myerscough, John Dempsey, Steve and Jamie Booth took the clubhouse lead with 77 points. This was equalled by Jason Atherton, Dave Parry, Steve Woods and Grant Benson. They had a superb inward nine of 42 points.

Lymm Golf Clubs Steve Lamont, Pete Gold, Andy Clarkson and Tony Chorlton were delighted with 2nd place and 78 points. ‘There is life in the old dog’ Declared veteran Lamont.

Mark Austin and Nigel Hallows both birdied the brilliant 17th hole as they teamed up with Steve Austin and Richard Blackwell to sneak into first place with 79 points to take first prize.

The top five scores all played under clear blue skies this afternoon.
