Maxitours at perfect Davenport Golf Club
Perfect weather conditions and a superbly prepared golf course were the reward for Maxitours players at Davenport today.
The course is idyllic. Situated just 4 miles from Stockport town centre you could be in the middle of the Scottish highlands. Davenport is possibly the most peaceful course we play with no major roads, railways or airplane routes to be seen. Only the occasional yelp of ‘fore’ from Glynn Isaac and his fairway avoiding team breaks the silence.
‘Those greens are beautiful to play on. They are so good I even enjoyed my four putt on the 17th.’ Reported humble Paul Evans.
There were a few tired looking faces at check in as most Maxitours players stayed up to watch the football. Everyone was so happy I had to double check England hadn’t won the world Cup last night.
We are looking good though. Confidence is crucial.
In todays event confident Nigel Ashton continued his solid year with a fifth place finish. He hasn’t looked back since his old team mate and biggest critic Paul Fell moved to Spain last year. Team mates Ian Ogden and eighty year old Dave ‘three birdies’ Cooper were also on fire.
Paul Price’s team recorded an excellent 83 points to take 3rd place. His team informed me that Tom Butler was by far their least valuable player.
It was nice to see Don Phillips and his team take 4th place. Veteran Keith Park played some fine golf.
Geoff Bickerton(4), Steve Booth(5), Dave Griffin(4) and Mark Richardson(1) played late in the day and were delighted to score 84 points. I asked Geoff if there were any good performances as he handed the card in and he spent the next ten minutes talked me through his tee shot on the 16th which finished 2 feet away. He failed to mention team mate Richardsons start- as the big ex Davenport member incredibly birdied four of the first five holes! Class.
Winning with a fine 85 points was the rejuvenated Colin Roberts(20) playing alongside famous local Cricket umpire Dave Marchant(17), Steve Jones(11) and Austin Salmon(12). Salmon was the main man and he couldn’t stop his ball from leaping into the hole as he picked up 7 shots for the team.
Well played chaps!
Thanks so much for your support.
