Maxitours- Clarion Wealth Management Masters at first Class Vale Royal.
Vale Royal is now possibly the best inland course in Cheshire. With the beautiful Abbey on full view on most of the holes it is a stunning location to play golf. Ian Embury and his high quality team looked after us incredibly well as usual.
And huge thanks to Clarion Wealth management for their continued sponsorship, Keith Thompson and John Winstanley are two top men who I can’t recommend highly enough.
The course received huge praise throughout the day from all players. There was not a single negative comment. Brilliant.
‘That set up was fantastic!’ Praised John Cross.
‘Shame I couldn’t do it justice.’ The honest Heyrose man added with a hint of sadness.
Nigel Ashton is no Spring Chicken. I was a bit concerned the older guys might get dehydrated today.
‘Were you ok out there in the heat- I hope you kept your fluids up?’ I asked when he handed his card in.
‘Yes, I came prepared with grapes and a pork pie.’ I have no idea how a pork pie keeps you cool but it is what the retired head master recommends. I think the sun may have got to him.
John Hassett is possibly the most intelligent player in Maxitours history.
He actually looks a little bit like Albert Einstien with his uncombed grey hair but more impressively he plays bridge for England.
‘It’s a bit like golf – you need a very good partner.’ Said the modest Cheshire man. He was searching for 3 good partners after recent results but Graham Jenkinson and friends managed surprised him with a top 10 and 79 points.
In today’s event it was the very early starters and the later guys who feature most on the leaderboard. The Eaton team of Andy Barker, James Buchanan, Steve Brown and Bob Clarke came in 3rd with 85 points.
It is great to see Kev Hart and his team back in the prizes after a very quiet 12 months. Mark Foley, Alan Vaughan, and Paul Yearsley all contributed well with 86 points to take 2nd.
Winning late in the day as things cooled off was the low handicap pairing of Liam Rex, David Salmon who teamed up with Chris Wantling and Mett Coffey and scored 89 points to record their first win for several years.
Wel played chaps. Thanks to everyone for your attendance today and for staying safe with plenty of water. The Vale royal bar nearly ran out of fresh orange juice and lemonade.
Yours in golf,
Tim
