Maxitours at Heavenly Hopwood

Maxitours at heavenly Hopwood Golf Club.

Manchester (Hopwood) has had two hugely prestigious events this week. The ladies English Open saw some of the best young professionals in Europe take on this challenging course. A Czech girl won with a superb -11 score for three rounds.
Today a slightly less talented but just as focused field all enjoyed this test. The general feedback was that most of my players feel that Hopwood is now firmly established the best course in Manchester.

‘The first hole is a beauty and it just gets better and better as the holes go by.’ Reported single figure Matt Garside.

Thanks to everyone at the Club who make us feel so welcome. Steven Proctor runs a tight ship in the Clubhouse, The pro shop is also up there with the best in the North West and golf club secretary Julie is superb. What a venue.

David Kelly is on his own special diet. In order to keep the weight off he orders a salad from the waitress, a glass of water, followed by a big portion of chips.
David Smith is a good player but wasn’t up to his usual best on the lovely Hopwood greens.
‘God knows how I’ll put tomorrow.’ He fretted.
The Cavendish greens are the toughest in the business so it should be interesting.

There is a prize for the best two day score and a team can only win one prize so a full list of todays prize winners will be in tomorrows report.
The weather should be perfect for golf tomorrow ‘up in the mountains’ at Buxton..
In todays event it was great to see Lewis Marland in the prizes with Phil Dickens, Neil Evans and on-form Dave Greenwood scoring 85 points.
Oxford educated Mick Mahon, Sheep farmer Richard Palmer, Andy Faulkner and Russ Keighly had a super 86 points early in the day to take 2nd .
Winning with a solid 87 points was Wychwoods Eddie Sterling, Tom Butler, Sam Williams and Sean O’Connor. They picked up three shots on the closing two holes when all around them teams were struggling on the back nine.

Well played chaps.
Excellent golf.
