Maxitours at Super Stockport

The drainage work at Stockport is really paying off as the course was in super condition despite tremendous rainfall on Friday and Saturday. The early morning frost disappeared and a terrific day was enjoyed by all. Caterers Sue and Paul were on top of their game and Gary and Alex in the pro shop were extremely helpful as usual.

Thanks to Matt Turnock for running the second half of the day. The report is slightly shorter than usual.

Roy Ainsworth and his team are a great bunch and they don’t take their golf too seriously – which is essential if you have ever watched them play. Today Brian Ankers hit a new low when he brought two left size 6 golf shoes with him by mistake. Rather than purchasing another pair he borrowed playing partner Roy’s size 12 shoes.
‘Preparation is key’ Remarked Ankers as he tripped up on the way to the 1st tee.
Wychwoods Paul Woodbine turned up with an extra layer on today due to the overnight heavy frost in Staffordshire. He was delighted to see the Cheshire sunshine and lush green Stockport fairways. He looked a bit worried. I’ve spoiled the wife this morning and turned the heating on but its getting warm so I could have saved on the fuel.

Congratulation to John Hilton on winning the Xentum Order of Merit after Summer 28 events over the best courses the North West has to offer. The ex European table tennis champion recorded 2 second places and a victory at Prestbury over the season.
