Final Winter Shotsaver s430 Order of Merit

Nearly 1000 golfers competed in Maxitours events this winter and 276 talented golfers played well enough to earn Order of Merit points. The Final Shotsaver S430 Order of Merit was just won by John Reilly after his good friend Jimmy O’Reilly and Moby Rawthore made strong challenges on the exciting final day singles. Many thanks to Shotsaver for their tremendous support of this years Order of Merit which I am delighted to announce will continue this Summer.

Maxitours Shotsaver singles at Knutsford.

The recent damp weather has shut many local courses however the delightful and well draining Knutsford golf course was never in danger of being closed, indeed it was presented in tremendous condition by its team of hard working greenkeepers.

‘This is the wettest drought I’ve ever bloody known’ said Neville Dennis as he put on his waterproofs ready to start the days play. The clouds soon lifted and conditions improved as everyone who sensibly ignored the weather forecast had an enjoyable day.

Terry Davison loves telling jokes, even if they are not very funny. Today, on more than one occasion, he enjoyed coming out with the Old classic ‘the back nine is much harder than the front nine’ as he referred to the beautiful nine hole Knutsford course.

In todays exciting final event of the season John Reilly struggled in the early part of his round, a fighting back nine saw him secure the Shotsaver S430 Order of Merit by just two points from his good friend Jimmy O’Reilly. John has been an ever present on Maxitours this year and this seven handicapper has a terrific fighting spirit which makes him such a great competitor, very well played John.

Frank Garvey and Sean Reilly continued their strong finish to the season as they finished second and third respectively, honours of the day went to six handicapper Guds Ahmed. Guds has struggled all season due to his exciting lifestyle, however he is getting back to his flambouyant best on the golf course and a solid level par back nine earned him first place with 38 points.

Shotsaver Pairs at Prestbury Golf Club.

Maxitours visited wonderful Prestbury Golf Club today. There were plenty of refreshing April showers to prevent the full field of competitors from overheating.
Shotsaver Golf GPS systems kindly sponsored todays Maxitours event and they again offered participants the opportunity to try their marvellous product on the course ‘I don’t want one of them cheating machines’ said John Farnsworth seriously ‘when I play golf I play much better when I don’t know where I’m going’.
As we all know golf is a great game and can be enjoyed by the young and the old. ‘Old’ Rob Weston from Knutsford was let down this morning when his regular partner awoke with a bad back. Things improved when a twelve year old Prestbury junior came to the rescue. ‘Young’ Matthew Delaney was ‘a credit to his parents’ the lovely lad has a great swing and will hopefully have many happy years ahead of him on the links.
It was great to see Jason Waite playing in his first event since last summer, the likeable Tytherington man only enjoys golf in the sunshine and today he was very concerned about getting his hair wet. Jason returned last week from a trip of a lifetime when he went to Augusta to watch Bubba win the Masters, in fact if you have a spare morning he will happily tell you all about it.
The world of sport has produced many successful sibling pairings, Venus and Serena, Bobby and Jack Charlton, Eduardo and Franscesco Molinari to name but a few. Unfortunately Malcolm and Graham Brownhill do not fit into this category and the two Chorlton brothers continued their string of very average performances with just 36 points today.
Two all time Manchester United greats Frank Stapleton and Stuart Pearson were feared by defenders throughout the country when they were at the pinnacle of their footballing careers. Nowadays they are becoming feared on the local golfing stage as they recorded another solid performance with a 43 point score in the worst of the testing conditions.
Glamourous Sale ladies Moira Forster and Elaine Sloane produced a gutsy performance in the wet morning conditions and they also scored a fine 43 points. Ten handicap Forster birdied the tough 12th and charismatic Sloane made a monumental three on the long 9th hole.
Chris Cyprus and Paul Dalby from Didsbury finished in second place due to a better last three holes, it was around the turn however when three handicap Dalby really turned on the style playing holes 7 to 11 in a tremendous three under par.
Winning todays event were Maxitours regulars Darren Whittaker and Ian King. After a poor Winter season without a top three finish, the two Bramall men finally got it together scoring 43 points with a stronger back nine. Fireman Whittaker has plenty of time to practice between blazes, however it was King who set the course alight with a magical birdie on the last hole to narrowly take first place.
Thanks to Sponsors Steven and Jason Ballard from Shotsaver thanks to everyone who played today in such great spirits.

The Shotsaver s430 Order of Merit

With just two events left things are incredibly tight at the top of the Shotsaver Order of Merit.

There is a titanic battle to finish in the top ten of the Order of Merit to make this years historic Knutsford Shotsaver shootout. Maxitours legends such as Neville Dennis and Carl Kennedy are struggling to sleep at night as they know their places in the Shootout are far from guaranteed.

Consistent John Reilly has a healthy lead however with plenty of points to play for on the final day Shotsaver Singles Event at Knutsford GC on 26th April (25 points for a win,1point for 25th position) anything is possible!

Magnificent Mere and Prestbury start times

http://www.maxitoursgolf.com

‘The Cleveland Classic’ at The Mere

The Mere was presented in tremendous condition for todays latest Maxitours event. The emerald striped fairways were lush but incredibly dry despite recent heavy rain and the April greens were really excellent, many thanks to Head Greenkeeper Gwen and his hard working team.

The golf bar was also in excellent condition due to a recent full refurbishment and the Mere is now recognised as possibly the premier golf location in the North. Paul Taylor has a fully refurbished premier golf swing and this is also starting to pay dividends as he moved out of his regular bottom three position and was delighted with a joint 21st placing.

The food at Mere is always first class and the tasty bacon sandwiches were served this morning by an incredibly attractive waitress. Alan Clough kept shaking his head for some reason and commented on more than one occasion about the quality of the baps.

It is rumoured that many of the Mere Cheshire set clientele regularly use botox and other age reducing techniques to make themselves look younger and more attractive. Baby face assassin Marcus Kaye has no such worries and he teamed up with Phil Davies to finish in 7th spot with 41 points.

I like to ensure everybody leaves my events happy however Paul Crisp had a very upsetting day at ‘The Mere’ today. On the course he resembled a short legged Lee Westward as he missed several short putts to lose out on first place by just two shots. On completion of his round his day went from bad to worse when he wasn’t able to buy his usual peanuts from behind the bar, ‘you only do vegetable crisps?!’ exclaimed the devastated Chorlton man.

Back on the course John Webb and the larger than life Dave Madely (who kindly sponsored me for many years in my younger days) finished in fourth spot after an excellent 42 point haul, Richard Palmer and Declan Fitzhenry matched that score with a better back nine and were delighted to claim third spot.

Ex Manchester United keeper Jeff Wealands paired up with ex- Chorlton Albion star Pete McManus who birdied the 2nd and 7th holes as they racked up a terrific 43 points to finish second. This matched Andy Bradley and Mark Graingers score however talented 2 handicap Grainger finished with two excellent birdies to close out the back nine to record his first Maxitours victory.

Many thanks to John Gallagher from Srixon/Cleveland for his terrific support of Maxitours at Mere. Thanks also to his stunning wife Karen who is Mere’s brilliant Golf Coordinator.

Thank you to all players for your support today, Tim
