Maxitours at delightful Davyhulme

Another brilliant days’ golf was enjoyed by all at our latest terrific new Maxitours venue – Davyhulme.
Only about 10% of my players had played here and they were all really impressed with the Golf Course and Clubhouse. ‘I hope we are back here next year’ was the overwhelming consensus.

‘The greens were really super’ Declared Les Russon.
‘What a building!’ Admired Drew Norman. ‘Fantastic!’

Thanks to Jane and all the excellent staff at this very friendly Club.

Highly respected PGA professional Martyn Hamer also does a great job at Davyhulme and he enjoyed Maxitours visiting his home Club.
’What a lovely bunch of guys’ He commented at the end of the day.
He took a real shine to Gary Holt who cleaned him out of Mars bars before he went out to play. Martyn sped off to cash and carry on the off chance that the portly Lancastrian got peckish half way round.

In today’s event one handicapper Steve Walmesley had a Maxitours record NINE gross birdies! Yes nine birdies!. His team need shooting as they could only manage 81 points. Steve is hoping to be released in the next transfer window.

Barry Jackson also had a Maxitours first when he arrived at Davyhulme on his bike. He played like a ‘Chopper’ today. ‘I’ll probably get run over on my way home the way my luck is going.’ Said the likeable Davyhulme member.

It was breezy on the course and Dave Smith tried to hit a couple of Tiger Woods stingers but failed miserably. The closest he got to hitting a stinger was when he got bitten by a wasp on the 12th.

In todays event the windy conditions and tricky pin spots meant scoring was tough. Once again the competition was extremely close.
Dr Alison(15) and Dr James Shipstone(10) teamed up with John Hunt(18) and Liz Halliwell(13) to take 4th spot on 83 points

Ashton on Mersey housewife favourites Jimmy McEwan(6) John Harker(19) Ste Woods(16) and Jimmy Shirley(13) had a better back nine to take 3rd spot also on 83 points.

Tom Baker(17) and his son Tom Baker junior(14) played alongside John Kilner(7) and David Smith(9) they were delighted to score 84 points despite collecting just two points on the easy 17th hole.

Taking first prize and earning a second win of the summer were Hale’s charismatic Chris Brown(5) Ian Goulty (9) and the Veitch brothers Peter (10)and Andy (19). Despite a shot reduction from their previous success and also scoring just two points on the 17th they battled to a hard fought victory. Seventy year old Peter made a valuable birdie on the last to show his class. Well played chaps!
Thanks to everyone for your continued support.

Yours in golf, Tim.

Maxitours at Excellent Ringway

Everything about Ringway Golf Club was absolutely top notch today.

The greens were flawless and running fast and true. The fairways were lush and tightly cut. The refurbished Clubhouse looked superb and the service throughout the day was spot on. The girls behind the bar were absolutely brilliant with my guys and it was refreshing to see they were never short of a smile. They even laughed at one of John Hilditch’s jokes, which is a first.

Thanks to Club manager Tracy and everyone at this friendly Club for your hospitality today. Brilliant.

Frank Hindle is a great bloke and Maxitours players may know him fondly as ‘The moaning Lancastrian’. He has been ill recently after a minor stroke but it is great to see him back to full fitness. His team mates think that since his episode he has forgotten what a bad golfer he was for many years. He now thinks he is a player and even made a two today. The team were delighted to finish in 7th place. Welcome back Frank.

Sarah Ormrod (16) is one of the most attractive players in Maxitours history. She scored 21 points on her own on the front nine and helped her team take 2nd place with 84 points. Dave Crompton(10), Dave Greenwood(11) and Nigel Hallows(8) watched on in awe.

Winning today were the less attractive but no less popular Sale quartet of Simon Poucher(12), Neil Simpson(14), last years excellent Captain David Carlile(18) and Brendan Leighton(18). They were having a steady round before finishing with 7 points on the 17th and 6 points on the last to catapult themselves through the field and earn a first victory for nearly five years, Well played chaps.

We had over 150 players today and there was once again not a single no show. Thank you very much for your integrity.
Yours in golf,
Tim

Maxitours at beautiful Vale Royal

Maxitours visited Vale Royal Golf Course today. According to the knowledgeable Mick Mahon ‘It just keeps getting better and better!’
A few players had never played at Vale Royal before and they were rightly impressed with the Abbey and the terrific course:
‘This looks great. I’m really looking forward to my round!’ said an excited Pete Alsop who doesn’t get out of his native Buxton very much.
‘That was absolutely gorgeous!’ Reported Max Henderson. ‘I’ll be back!’

Thanks to all the staff at this five star venue for your excellent servce.

Golf is a great social game. In fact, the only time Trevor Nicholson speaks to his long-lost brother is when he finishes last in a Maxitours event and his brother rings him to catch up and take the mickey. Turn your phone off tonight Trevor.

One Maxitours player who can’t be named told me he is putting incredibly well after a private putting lesson with his wife on the kitchen floor. I’m not sure whether wife was on the kitchen floor or he was rolling the ball on the kitchen floor or both. But whatever he is doing -keep it up.

In a magical Maxitours day there were two holes in one! Pete Walters holed a superb eight iron on the 16th hole and even Jim Comerford managed an ace – a lovely five iron on the tricky 6th . Congratulations.
Even more impressive was Jim Caldwell who holed two full wedge shots for eagles on the 3rd and 13th holes. – Nice!

In today’s event Simon Wilkinson’s likeable Birchwood team had a terrific 46 points on their back nine to record a seasons best 3rd place finish. Even John Linsky(17) played well. John Fitzsimons(7) was solid and Colin Berry(12) saved his best golf until his closing holes -making vital pars on the 17th and 18th .

Jim Caldwell’s eagle heroics helped his team take 2nd spot also with 87 points , they managed to score 47 points on the back nine to just take 2nd place. Bob Picthall,(13) Peter Griggs(16) and Jon Hume(14) completed the competitive quartet.

Before he went out I had a great chat with Ashton on Mersey nice guy Chris Brownhill who had spent a morning working at the airport. He was telling me how he services planes when they land at Manchester before taking off again. If you have a spare thirty minutes, he will happily tell you all about it. His golf really took off today and his team had their first win for 3 years with an impressive 88 points. Twelve handicapper Gary Hempstead(14) had three birdies with shots to do some damage and Pete Hamlett(6) and Gary Arrowsmith(9) also contributed well.

Well played chaps
Thanks to all players for your support.

Yours in Golf,
Tim.
