Maxitours Shotsaver Classic at Caldy

Clear blue skies and a tricky wind provided classic seaside links conditions to be enjoyed by the 100 Maxitours competitors at wonderful Caldy today.
The Golf Course and Clubhouse were in immaculate condition. The facilities are superb, from a terrific practice ground right through to a state of the art changing room. Ex Rally driver Stuart Coupe was absolutely delighted with the free moisturizer provided in the toilets which helped keep his delicate skin in great condition.
John Hillier is another Maxitours player with a hidden talent, and this European table tennis champion from 40 years ago struggled to repeat last weeks second place Maxitours finish as he could only manage 38 points. Today it was his Pinnacle ball doing the pinging and ponging as he failed to clear the trees on the long 11th hole.
Rafa Benitez watched some of the golf from his mansion behind the 6th hole as he was cleaning out his gutters this afternoon. Rafa has worked with some great footballers in his career (during his time at Aston Villa) today however he was really impressed by Roy Bramwells fancy leg action as he tried to guide in a three foot putt on this tricky green.
Chris Cyprus and Paul Dalby from Didsbury only scored 1 point on their first hole, ‘we’ve got no chance now’ sulked Cyprus . ‘Come on you never know!’ encouraged his partner as he gathered up Chris’ toys and put them back in his pram. They both played majestically on the next 17 holes to return a terrific 45 points. Likeable four handicap Dalby shooting level par in the wind was strongly supported by his talented partner.
Fresh faced and newly moisturized Stuart Coupe knew his skin was going to be protected so he could focus all his energy on his golf, he teamed up with Mark Robinson from Clitheroe and they recorded three classy birdies on the short holes on route to finishing second with 43 points.
Big John Royle and Guy Hall from Sale were delighted to secure their first Maxitours top three finish. Royle has a heart the size of a lions and a fighting five at the last saw them record a battling 42 points.
Dennis Humphries and Richard Godbold from Sandbach struggled into the wind as they only picked up three points on the tough estuary holes 4,5 and 6 however as they turned downwind the fireworks really started and Dennis recorded back to back birdies to set them on their way to a commendable fourth place finish.

Many thanks to all competitors for supporting my first event at Caldy. Thank you to Steve and Jason Ballard from Shotsaver for their kind sponsorship.

The Latest Shotsaver S430 Order of Merit

Jimmy O’Reilly and John Reilly from Swinton Park both lead the latest Shotsaver order of Merit after a string of consistent results in recent weeks. They are closely followed by scratch Cheshire Lady Cath Rawthore and her 4 handicap husband Moby. Steve Dunphy and Chris Cyprus are also making a big impression as they enjoy their first season playing Maxitours.
The Top ten in the final Order of Merit after the singles event at Knutsford in April will play in the famous nine hole Shotsaver Shootout when all ten players tee off down the first hole and 1 player gets eliminated after each hole.

The Vale Royal Golf Club Am Am

Another terrific field gathered at the prestigious Vale Royal Abbey Golf Course for the latest Maxitours event.
A slight early morning frost disappeared and the 100 competitors enjoyed the superb greens and well manicured fairways. Many thanks to the greens staff for their hard work and immaculate presentation.
‘I just couldn’t believe how dry the fairways are’ said Kenny Jepson, the deadly accurate and very likeable Mancunian who regularly hits 14 of them each round.
Manchester City have started to wobble like an MFI wardrobe recently as the possibility of winning the Premiership becomes a reality, in contrast John and Jimmy O’Reilly are enjoying the pressure of leading The Shotsaver Order of Merit and they stayed rock solid to record 82 points and a commendable 3rd place finish.
Bill Ross nearly threw his golf clubs in the Mere three weeks ago as his golf hit rock bottom, however 6th place last week saw the Scotsman win his first ever Maxitours prize. Today the more confident Scot played a major part in his teams 83 points, which was good enough for a second place finish.
Chorltons dream team welcomed back Gaz Hibbert who has not played recently due to family commitments. ‘He was a waste of time today- hopeless’ said lifelong friend and team mate Mike Lynch. ‘We would have won if he’d stayed at home and we had a decent player’ he added. Despite the in-fighting the team finished fourth with a well earned 80 points.
Ex football legends Stuart Pearson and Frank Stapleton just missed out on the prizes as their team finished with a solid 79 points for 5th place.
Last night Moby Rawthore was struggling for a final member of his team and he was recommended an improving Sale junior under the name of Ollie ‘Dick Turpin’ Bowden, the young 17 year old ‘putted like a pro’ according to his low handicap teammates and he was on the card 15 times helping his team score a phenomenal 89 points. A very large Maxitours handicap reduction has taken place.
Nearest the pin was won by sixty year old Ian Ainsworth as hit the five wood of his life and his ball finished 2 inches from the cup on the par three 6th hole. The only area of his game the six foot gentle giant needs to work on is disguising the look of surprise on his face after such a good shot.
Many thanks to all players for supporting todays fantastic event.
