2 day Pro-am at Fixby, Huddersfield Sunday 18th and Monday 19th September team of 3 required to play with me, great course, great prizes, meal on conclusion of play each day £150 per person. Please let me know if you would like to play.

The Raa Putter Classic at Vale Royal Abbey.

A mixture of showers and sunshine greeted the 108 Maxitours competitors at the extremely popular Vale Royal venue. Once again the course was presented in immaculate condition, many thanks to owner Steve Graham and his very professional team.

Manchester United legends Stuart Pearson and Frank Stapleton were in the second group to tee off. Both players graced the Old Trafford turf for many years and on their front nine they were gracing Vale Royals beautiful fairways, especially when Poncho Pearson birdied the 8th and 9th for a 22 point haul. Unfortunately old cruciate, metatarsil and hamstring injuries saw them fade away on the back nine.

Roy Bramwell had a member of his team cry off late in the day ‘Tim, I was so desperate for a partner I had to invite the wife, I’ve really been scraping the bottom of the barrel’ said happily married Roy . Attractive Heidi showed him who is the boss as she easily outscored her husband.

Martin Worthington entered the 2’s sweep but found the par threes difficult today so he decided to make a 2 on the par 5 fifteenth to record the first albatross in Maxitours history! Well done Martin.

Last weeks winners Pete Holmes and Mark Breiley set the early pace with 44 points in the calmer morning conditions and were happy to have a score which they felt should finish in the top ten.

This score was challenged by other early morning starters Liam Kindon and Dave Wilson and also Bramalls Joe Kirwan and Mike Spencer who had 43 points.

The wind picked up in the afternoon and the temperature dropped, scoring deteriorated and Holmes and Breiley who had waited three years for a win had recorded a remarkable double. ‘not even Barcelona have retained the Champions league yet we have won back to back Maxitours –what an achievement’ said a delighted Breiley.

Many thanks to Roy from Raa putters for sponsoring todays event. Local golfing legend Jimmy Murphy thanked the putter for turning his year around when he made the cut in the Seniors British Open ‘you cant miss from inside 6 feet’ is Murphys verdict on the putter. www.raaputters.co.uk

Many thanks to all competitors for your continued support, Tim

Results from the Bilyana Tour Championship at Lymm + Vale Royal start sheet

The Maxitours Bilyana Tour Championship and Shootout!

The first ever Maxitours shootout was a huge success ‘what a great day!’ was the general consensus from nearly 90 Maxitour competitors at leafy Lymm in the Maxitours Tour Championship.

The course was in lovely condition despite recent heavy downpours. Many thanks to Secretary Andy Scully and all his staff for making us feel so welcome.

My ex PE teacher Pete Holmes and Mark Breirley have enjoyed playing bad golf over the past four years on Maxitours and had never recorded a top three finish, today however, the golfing Gods smiled down on them and they recorded their first victory together. The duo win a superb Shotsaver s430 GPS system each for their efforts, ‘what do we do with these?’ asked the sporty rather than academic Holmes.

Darren Whittaker and Ian King were also delighted with their 2nd place and 47 points.

The talented Macclesfield duo of Em Williams and Steve Chapman also played great golf, shot of the day was Ems superb tee shot on the tough 13th hole which set up a birdie and won him nearest the pin. Jacob Ashcroft and Tom Giblin also scored 46 points for their highest ever Maxitours finish.

The scoring was excellent all day in the calm conditions and an amazing 43 points were required to qualify for the superb 30 man Bilyana shootout!

Rachel the lovely lady from Bilyana golf was expecting to see some real class in the playoff- she was disappointed! She had to wait for quite a while before anyone hit the green and then soon joined the 70 or so spectators running for cover as Happy Gilmore lookalike Charles Herbert sent one into orbit.

Ken Jones was the first to play an excellent shot as his ball rolled up to 15 feet. He started to dream about a back massage from Kit Parkington in the plush 5 star Cornelia Diamond Golf Hotel when Gary Garner flushed a tremendous seven iron to 18 inches which was never going to be bettered. He was delighted to share the holiday prize with his playing partner Mark Green. Garner was overcome with emotion ‘I never win anything’ said the likeable Bolton greenkeeper.

Many thanks to Bilyana Golf for their kind sponsorship – they are a superb company who provide the best tee times and service of any company in Turkey- don’t go any where else! Thanks also to Steven and Jason from Shotsaver for their brilliant continued support this summer.

Singles Day 2

Many thanks to the Carden Park management on behalf of all the 72 who enjoyed this superb trip. The food and accommodation was first class and the beautiful golf courses were enjoyed by all.

There was a great atmosphere all weekend, I hope you enjoyed the event as much as I did.

The day 2 singles was won by 4 handicap Steve Berrell from Swinton Park who had a tournament career best 2 under par to record a magnificent 42 points.

Mark Marshall and Ryan Foley also played superbly as they both scored 41 points, Marshall made a great eagle on the magical 17th hole which saw him finish 2nd.

Mark Robinson continued his rich vein of form as did Jimmy O’Reilly and John Reilly who were delighted with two high finishes over both days.

Nobody backed Steve Berrell to win so happily all £112 stake money goes to the East Africa appeal.

Betterball Pairs day 1

There was a real holiday feel as everyone looked forward to a weekend away from their wives at Carden Park today, Bridget Elmore was looking forward to a weekend away from her husband. The sun was shining and Neville Dennis tried to buy a 99 ice cream from the half way house

It was nice to see everyone in their best golfing attire, Brian Hopkins was wearing the latest Galvin Green range and Andy Stubbens was wearing the new Bertie Bassett summer range.

Preston based Mark Robinson and the sauve Stuart Coupe set the early pace with 41 pts but Bramalls Tom Marsden and Chris Wilde overtook them with a fantastic 43 pts

Swinton Parks Mark Turner and Mike Wiszniewski turned in a phenomenal 25 points and played well on the back nine for a 45 point total.

However Cath and Ella Rawthore took the field apart with their incredible 27 points on the front nine and 46 in total.

Late in the day Andy Stubbens and Darren Whittaker scored 42 points for 4th place.

Once again many thanks for your support, Tim.
