Maxitours at Prestbury GC.

One hundred and eleven sun drenched golfers enjoyed the fantastic Prestbury Golf Course in todays Maxitour event, there was a really friendly atmosphere and Spring felt like it had really arrived, it was a real shame when Pete Holmes had to destroy a cluster of daffodils with his follow through after finding trouble on the seventh.

As the Masters tournament began today the entrance into the Prestbury course reminded many competitors of Magnolia drive, the subtle greens and the need for excellent course management also draws comparisons to the Augusta links. In typical Masters style there were shouts of ‘get in the hole’ as Dave Stanhopes approach to the 17th hole finished inches away. There was also plenty of hoopin and a hollerin from Anton Ellis in the Knutsford Golf Club fourball as Chris Roberts made a wonderful par four at the 12th by holing his wedge shot over Raes Creek .

There were several worrying outfits on course today, Gaz Hibbert and Colin Roberts were both comfortable in lime, Mike Osborne claimed his pink outfit was salmon and Ross Birch was wearing lilac, yes lilac pants. Terry Davison resembled a budgerigar with his little green and yellow number.

On a more serious note Wayne Rooney called into the golf club to complain about Terry Davisons out of control behaviour, apparently Coleen was tending to her vegetable patch when she was disturbed by Davison as he jumped up and down on the 15th green. Terrys veins were fully pumped and he was swearing alarmingly at his putter after holing a long birdie putt on the 15th green. Very sorry for the aggressive outburst Wayne .

There was some great scoring from the leaders, housewife superstar Pete Cleaver and Jack Pryce scored a great 46 points this was matched by larger than life characters Paul Baxter and Mike Sweeney from Hopwood, 55 year old Baxter had the second eagle of his undistinguished career when he holed a wedge on his final hole, the tricky 11th. The honours rather embarrassingly when to Pete Tinkler playing alongside my Dad, the old man had 14 single putts the best of these being a thirty footer up the green on the 17th hole for a birdie.

Many, many thanks for your continued support of Maxitours events.

Maxitours at Lymm Golf Club

Warm Spring sunshine greeted the Maxitours competitors at leafy Lymm Golf Club. The smooth swinging Order of Merit leader Ian King was delighted to welcome back his golfing buddy Darren Whittaker and they both secured some vital points with a solid performance and 42 points, this was matched by Carl Kennedy and Joe York also challenging for the Shotsaver Order of Merit crown.

Alan Reid teed off on the tough 3rd hole and began his round with a birdie followed by a par ‘I just pretended to be a good player’ explained the likeable Mancunion when asked about his excellent start.

Mark Noden was the first to finish his round and he looked delighted as he entered the clubhouse however it was the fact that they were serving his favourite bitter that brought a smile to his face rather than the very average 36 points he scored with his partner.

Colin Roberts and his team from Alsager also looked very happy as they entered the clubhouse however this time it was the attractive Lymm golf club senior ladies bridge section which lifted their spirits rather than a good score.

Eventually the talent started to return some good scores with 70 year old Alan Fairbanks dropping just one shot on the first six holes on his way to a 41 point haul. Ross Birch and Moby Rawthore played terrific golf for 44 points as did the big hitting duo Rick Picard and Guds Ahmed, however Julien Robinson and Ian Harrop had the better back nine and their 44 points score secured 3rd place.

Second place went to Tytheringtons Amanda O’Brien who plays off a very creditable 5 handicap and her Thomson airline partner Ian Worrell, the 55 year old pilot was delighted with his 46 points and headed off to celebrate both his performance and his birthday with a night on the tiles. Anybody flying to the Canary airlines in the morning could be in for a bumpy ride.

Tony Rains and Pete McMahon from Royal Antrobus took the honours with a great 47 points, we just ‘ham and egged’ really well said the talented duo as they notched up their first Maxitours win.

Many thanks to all who supported todays event which was rearranged from a fortnight ago, I hope you enjoyed the day, many thanks to Lymm GC for their great hospitality, Tim

Results from Mottram Hall

A strong field of sun drenched competitors enjoyed the lovely Mottram Hall Golf Course in todays Maxitour event.

Liam Harrison was the man in form after winning a ‘major’ at his home club Chorlton Cum Hardy last weekend and another solid performance despite playing alongside the talkative John Doodson brought him 40 points. Andy Taylor was delighted with his birdie on the 13th -one of the toughest holes in Cheshire and Martin Jump held his nerve to record a great birdie on the challenging sixteenth hole.

Tony Ramatowski looked shocked by the quality of his performance today and he will really have to focus on looking less surprised when he hits the ball where he wants it to go in future, the likeable Hopwood member teamed up with Moby Rawthore to record 43 points. This score was matched by Joe York and Carl Kennedy and also ‘Stuart party pants Bailey’ and John Hughes who all received plenty of important Order of Merit points today.

Lymm golf clubs Barry Norris and Steph Hamilton enjoyed the Spring heat and holed some great putts on their Maxitours debut to score 45 points however it was Sale GC pair George Drakonakis and Mark Foley who returned the score of the day. Talented George who was off a 18 handicap this time last year shot 1 under par today and is really one to watch for the future, lets hope he maintains his tremendous attitude and continues to enjoy his golfing journey.

Finally can I please apologise for my Dads legs which were on display today, please do not let them prevent you from entering future Maxitour events.
