Maxitours at astounding Stockport

I am delighted to announce that The Stockport Golf is back to its very best.

The course was described as being in ‘fantastic condition’ by Paul Gilbert and the praise just kept coming throughout the day. Well done to their superb head greenkeeper for making very real improvements to a class golf course.

‘That was the best I’ve seen it in years. Tip-Top condition!’ Announced John Owen.
‘The course is Immaculate!’ Beamed John Dickenson.

Stockport are a great club to deal with and Steward Paul and all the staff are famous for their hospitality. Even the assistant secretary John Ormiston had a smile on his face as he was busy helping park the cars this morning. Thank you.

Golf and beer lover Trevor Dunne is on lockdown for two weeks as his wife is having a small operation.
‘I am on total lockdown to support my wife. The only time I have been out and about is to play golf and to go to the pub.’ Superb dedication Trevor.

There was some great golf played throughout the day as players made the most of the immaculate greens and perfect weather conditions. Jack Coleman showed his class and rolled back the years with a nice four point birdie on the 8th hole regarded as many as the toughest par three hole in Cheshire. Paul Wrigley made back to back eagles on the 6th and 7th and Anthony Grinnell and Rick Sims both holed long approach shots for their eagles on par 4 holes.

Forgetful Mike Webb (described as daft by his team mates) left his wallet and mobile phone on the roof of his car this morning. He didn’t leave many shots on the golf course as his team finished in 5th place with 87 points.

Stockport’s Johhny Lord made the most of home advantage and his team were 4th on the card play off. Also scoring 87 points.

Sale’s 17 year old Cheshire boys sensation Adam Carr(2) had six birdies( including ones on the 17th and 18th ) playing alongside his Dad Steve (8) and Kev Moore (6). David Carlile (18) was the 4th member of the team and he appeared on the card once. He did buy the drinks though. The team finished 3rd.

Knutsfords Jim(11) and Georgie Clarke (20) teamed up with Pete Ledger (18) and Heyrose legend Graham Jackson(7). Young Georgi is playing great golf and she picked up 7 points for the team closely followed by Pete who had six three pointers himself. Great golf.

Taking the honours was Jon Hudsons(11) team of Mike Hill(7), Rob Blaine(17) and Andy Corner(11).
These guys have struggled all Summer and nearly had the wooden spoon in their last outing at Davyhulme but Hudsons putter got hot on the back nine as they came home in 47 points to earn a terrific and very popular win.

Well played guys.

Thanks to everyone for your 100% attendance. Incredible.

Maxitours at Magnificent Knutsford

Maxitours at marvellous Knutsford

Growing up as a lad I was always told that Knutsford was the best nine-hole golf course in the North. Not many of todays’ players would argue with that fact after experiencing the golf course today.

New head green keeper Dave Jones is doing an unbelievable job:
‘The attention to detail is incredible -that course is phenomenal.’ Reported Bramall’s four handicapper Dave Woods (he was in a good mood to be fair after a -3 back nine.)
‘Wow our green keeper needs to come here! That is outstanding work!’ Reported an undisclosed player.
‘They are the best greens I have ever played on!’ Admitted Mark Hagerty.
‘If that course was 18 holes it would be the very best in Cheshire!’ Declared single figure businessman Lee Tilley.

Thanks for the comments guys I am delighted you enjoyed my home course.

Hats off also to new clubhouse manager Steve Baker.
He was in at 7.45am this morning frying up the bacon butties and was still serving beer at 7.45pm this evening- brilliant . It was the busiest day of the year for bar and food taking at Knutsford – many thanks to all my players.

It was also good to see everyone abiding by social distance guidelines on the course and in the Clubhouse. Jimmy O’Reilly came in wearing the biggest face mask I have ever seen.
‘How did you know it was me?’ He questioned.
‘I could tell by the scruffy trousers.’

I have had over 250 different golfers support my events over the last two days and I have not had a single issue. Many thanks. It was also great to have my lovely wife and son playing together today in a Maxitours event for the first time and they had a really great day with Alistair Holloway and Garry Owen- Thanks for looking after them guys.

On my first visit to Wembley for the 1990 FA cup final I watched Lee Martin slam in the winner for Manchester United. He slammed in a few putts today but had to go home with a losers medal as his team’s 88 points was only good enough for 3rd place . ‘A Maxitours win would have meant more to me than that FA Cup win. ‘ Reported the intelligent Royal Liverpool member.

Taking second place was Carden Parks Paul Fell(5), Ian Venables(12), Mike Lowe(9) and Dave Cooper(17). Fell was top of the Xentum Order of Merit last year but has fallen off a cliff before his impressive performance today. The team picked up 8 points on the 15th hole.

Winning today and making the most of the ideal golfing conditions was the Wilmslow team of Neil Higgins(9) John Bent(7) Mark Steggs(10)and Ian Waller(12) It was great to see John Bent again who was a regular on Maxitours ten years ago. He has obviously improved a lot since then.

Well played chaps great golf.

In the two day event Paul Fells team came out on top with a very impressive 173 total closely followed bu Steve Aspinalls’ team on 166.

Maxitours at tremendous Vale Royal

Another stunning day was enjoyed by Maxitours players at Vale Royal. The course really is superb and is always a huge favourite with my guys.
‘We love it around here. It is a terrific golf course!’ Announced well travelled John Hollingworth.
‘ Those greens were excellent. The greenkeeper put the pins in some tough spots. It was a fantastic test,’ Reported John Dickenson.

In todays event 3rd place went to Steve Aspinall’s Birchwood team who had 45 on the back nine to pip Chris Adams Prestbury men and Richard Blackwells Mottram team.

Taking second place was Garry Owens’(10) Denton team who went out in a brilliant 47 points but they stalled a little and could only manage 39 points on the back nine. Mark Bone(11) Lewis Ramsden (14) and Alistair Holloway (13) were his partners.

Winning today also with a great score of 86 points was the Sale Golf Club team of Simon Poucher(12), David Carlile(18) Neil Simpson(14) and Brendan Leighton(17)

These guys were hanging on to Leightons coat tails as he had the round of his life, picking up seven shots for his team including a chip in on the 16th .

Well played chaps.

There is also a two day event with about 10 teams participating on both days – so tomorrows report will be longer. All prizes won for individual days and the 2 day event will be published tomorrow..

Maxitours at delightful Davyhulme

Another great days’ golf was enjoyed by Maxitours players at Davyhulme Park.

What a great golf course this is. Once again there were numerous happy golfers who were begging me to return to this classic parkland course next year.

The clubhouse is stunning and PGA Professional Martyn Hamer is a superb asset to Davyhulme – he couldn’t be more helpful – a brilliant credit to his profession.

I have just returned from a family holiday in Norfolk where there is a drought and the courses are burning up -Davyhulme looked like a green golfing paradise in comparison. We are so lucky to have all this rain.
‘I’ve not played here before but that is great layout -in immaculate condition- I loved it! ’ Announced Charlie Kingston.

Looking at the scorecards I’ve never seen so many teams start as badly. The first hole at Davyhulme is a narrow par three and well over half the teams dropped shots. Eight teams dropped two shots.
It didn’t bother Simon Raine as his team was one of only two to pick up a shot on the hole. All he could talk about was his eagle at the last however. ‘My second into the last was the greatest shot I have ever hit.’ The other 16 holes were average as they finished in the middle of the pack.

It was great to see Mike Verdon back in action today – he is a top bloke 👍and looked great.

Jim Clarke’s team has had a very quiet Summer by their high standards but today they were back playing some excellent golf. It is always lovely to see a young girl on the golf course and Jims daughter Georgi followed up a win at Knutsford yesterday with some great golf today. She is miles better than her Dad. They finished in 4th place.

Gary Neiles(6) Sandiway team scored 46 points on their back nine to sneak into third place. Joe Yates(9) made a great birdie on the 13th to give the team a boost. Son Paul(9) and John Longworth (13) made up the team.

School teacher Danny Holbrook(18) and his Ashton on Mersey team took second with 90 points. Holbrook has barely done a days work in the last six months and he made the most of his ‘holiday’ time to improve his golf. Gabriel Bagshaw(3) recorded two 2’s in the space of three holes – the most impressive being his eagle on the par 4 seventh hole. Joe Denman(7) and Haydn Parry(5) also played great golf.

Winning today was the Sandbach team of Mark Buckley(9) playing with his son and new father himself Andy (8) Don Phillips (12) and Ian Pezell(10). Andy and Don both birdied the index 1 hole to secure 8 points and a one shot victory . Well played lads great golf.

Thanks to all who played and for your 100% attendance. Tim
